Last week I bought a motherboard off Ebay and fixed an old computer that had a failed motherboard. The hardware is described in the thread, Is anyone still using Windows 7? #457 .
The replacement motherboard, unlike the old one, supports UEFI so I decided to use it. Before that I did the following from Windows 10:
from the Command Line converted Disk 0 from MBR to GPT
Had to start over with the disk with Windows 7. From Disk Management deleted all partitions on Disk 1 and converted Disk 1 from MBR to GPT.
Rebooted and in the BIOS switched to boot with UEFI.
I rebooted with the setup for Windows 7 Pro with SP1. I installed it on Disk 1. It worked fine with dual-boot.
Instead of waiting for the usual Windows 7 updates I decided to run the latest Simplix UpdatePack 7. That seemed to go OK.
The day was a disaster. I don't remember exactly what I was doing but the computer had a hard crash. Windows 7 was not recoverable so I had to do a complete installation of it. At the time I blamed Simplix for maybe updating at the same time as Windows Update.
Has anyone had any problems with Simplix UpdatePack 7 conflicting with Windows Updates? How about other software or drivers?
BTW, I reinstalled Windows 7 Pro. This time I didn't use Simplix UpdatePack 7. I used the regular Windows Updates. I am now past the point where Edge is installed. I found that is really needed since Internet Explorer is practically unusable.
