Samsung MagicTune incompatibilty

Not working here.

I've got a Samsung Syncmaster T190 (Brazil) and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
The driver for the T190 I've got from Samsung's site: 02/24/2008 ver. 3.0HC (probably for Win Vista)

The driver and MagicTune software that came with the driver CD simply doesn't work at all with this Windows.

Tried the MagicTune Win7 64-bit version, but after installing and rebooting it says something like: "This system is not supported".
Then I tried to run MagicTuneEngine in Windows Vista Compatibility mode, then the MagicTune itself. It says that the system changed and will take some time to gather information. There's a boot image that I've never seen before, but after that I get the same message.

Tried the MagicTune Win7 32-bit version, and after reinstalling and rebooting, it says something like "Reboot the system".
Closed magictune, then opened MagicTuneEngine in WinVista Compatibility Mode again. Then the MagicTune. Nothing happens.

The task manager shows that MagicTuneEngine is closed when MagicTune opens.

Any new tricks, anyone?

It seems that my monitor (T190) isn't implemented on MagicTune.

I just acquired a Samsung XL2370 LED monitor at great expense I may add, not sure if it is worth the money, but time will tell.

Anyway, it comes with a CD containing the User Manual, drivers, which installed OK, MagicTune and MultiScreen software, which don't work. So why include them I wonder?

I consulted Samsung's MagicTune website and it hasn't been updated since 2007 as far as I can see, although it boasts a download for Vista and Windows 7 x64, which promptly installs in the x86 folder anyway and doesn't work either.

Further online consulting tells me that it also depends on your graphics card. I find this bizarre - monitor settings should be a separate thing from graphics card settings so why are they linked? Maybe I'm missing something here.

Another thing I'd love to know why, at boot, the monitor cycles through HDMI, Analog and then finally after a fair time, Digital source (which I'm using - DVI) before allowing any screen image to appear.

This is the first time I've had a monitor that doesn't remember what source its signals are coming from and stick with it.

Because of that one has to take a stab at hitting the right moment in which to access the BIOS or get into Safe Mode because none of the usual visual clues are available.

Edit: solved the cycling through sources issue by using the OSD Setup menu and setting Auto Source to Manual, something online support didn't know.

Guys, try this:
SAMSUNG learning resource - download
(www . samsung . com /us/consumer/learningresources/monitor/magetune/pop_download.html)
I am using magic tune version 3.0.5 premium on my samsung lcd w/gforce 8600GT on Win7 x64 ultimate and it works ok. colors, gamma and brightness/contrast are really nice.

The version on site is 4.0.01, am downloading now and will try

(I had to search QUITE A LOT to find that site some months ago)

Hope its useful for you. :D

EDIT: any way windows 7 has an applet for color calibration also, if you don´t use the "magic" of samsung (wich is auto calibration of sorts in function of content) the 7 applet works quite well
EDIT2: anyway I ALWAYS do a FULL partition backap BEFORE trying anything. I use acronis but you can use ghost or any other soft out there. Full partition backup is safer than restore points, etc

It's probably working for you because your graphics card is on the compatibility list. Nvidia's GTX295 isn't so I'm out of luck.

Doesn't your graphics card CP have a colour calibration section?

Ex_Brit yes, nvidia drivers have a control panel section for color, etc. but it is quite primitive and VERY "manual"
After having tried out, nvidia's CP, Windows 7 color calibration and samsungs magic tune I decided to stick with samsung MT.
I DO NOT use the "auto" or "magic" feature, I just run the color calibration, wich is mainly manual, each time I update drivers or system.

Maybe the new version (wich I have not tried yet) has compatibility for more cards?

Just a tip: windows 7 color calibration (at least on 7 ultimate) is quite good. If your card is not supported by samsungs last version (4.0) try it.

OK. Maybe when I get some time, I'll look arround and see if I can find some app for color calibration that is not dependant on drivers. That way we would not depend on hardware driver support... don't know if such thing exists...
Ideas?

It would be nice if MagicTune didn't depend on hardware other than the monitor itself.

Does MagicTune crash like every half an hour for you guys? It keep flashing a windows saying some kind of error with Microsoft Visual C++ and then it crashes. It didn't even let me read the message. I am using Windows 7 Pro x64

Hm... it seems to crash everytime I plug and unplug my external HD.

I have a Samsung P2700FH. although it came with Magic Tune, the version provide was 32Bit, does not work with 64Bit sysetm, Downloaded Latest 64Bit version from Samsung, works fine for me, But will not work if you are useing the HDMI input, get the message incompatible with your system. Only works with the digital (DVI) input. Can't answer for the analogue input as I do not have one.
