Solved W7, No sound at all. Task Bar 'speaker at 100% and not muted'.

The Applications I'm trying to view and listen to have their speaker at 100%

Can anyone help me solve this?

Are you trying to use the speaker that is built in to the machine , or something else?

I use whatever is built into the machine.
I do not have any external speakers or headphones.

please open controlpanel do you have SRS Pro installed?? (HP's speaker sound option)
if so please open it --- check settings
also right click on sound icon taskbar select >> playback >> speakers>> properties
is using MS or SRS pro

I did as you asked.
I noticed something I considered unusual.
It appeared that W7 was trying to use a device with an icon that looks like a Monitor.
It was marked as the Default device.
My Monitor does not have speakers in it.
I went ahead and assigned the Realtek device with and icon that looks like a speaker as the Default.
I now have sound.

I am unsure how this happened as I have had sound for years and the Monitor also.

my suspicion is that the intel monitor device driver picked up an update, which for some odd reason reset the default setting
Although your monitor does not have speakers the driver it "picked" up will be used on multiple monitors including those with sound

note
update could either have come from Windows..... some drivers are still updated
or HP updates and even from intel
