Sound not working at all after clean install of Windows 7

Do you have another set of headphones or some speakers you can please try in the front and rear outputs?

I think it's a hardware fault, but I'm not sure.
I tried a pair of earphones, still no audio from them.

Looking at this last screenshot, it almost looks like the digital device is active, not the analog. Can you post the same image without the current detected device dialog in front?

The Analog one is not active, just the digital one.
The digital one always looks active, even when nothing is plugged into my computer.

Forgive if very basic, but let's see if the test works, or shows the animation of the speakers at least.

Start> Manage audio devices> Click on speakers (assuming speakers are connected)> Click on Configure in lower left> Click on Test

With both NVidia (chipset) audio devices installed as well as Realtek, it may be you have a Realtek audio card in the PCI-e slots which are obscured at the bottom of the picture here: http://oi45.tinypic.com/34in0pc.jpg

This is where I would lift the back facing up enough to see for sure if i was there working on it.

The Nvidia audio is part of the Nvidia GPU drivers which install if the card has HDMI output. I have 4 showing in Device Manager. I am assuming I could uninstall them all, but if it aint broke...

Hi Bill -

Are these listed under Sound as are OP's?

Do you think he has a Realtek onboard audio chip that is faulty?

It's like 5 AM over here, I've been up all night trying to fix this but I'm heading off.
Would you guys be willing to continue to help later on?

Always someone here to help . Get some sleep ;)

Yes Greg, listed under sound devices. I think when you install the video driver, it installs a new one. My experience is if you uncheck them when installing, the install fails...for me anyway. I just uninstalled 3 of them, will see if any issues. I have VIA HD audio as my default. A Guy

You know, I'm seeing instances of people saying the Nvidia HD Audio causes conflicts with Realtek audio causing a no audio issue. I have deleted all instances of Nvidia audio from my device manager without any affect to my sound. I do not use the HDMI output from my GPU however, so I can't say it wouldn't affect that. But My audio lists VIA audio for digital and HDMI.

Audio.jpg

You can choose to custom install Nvidia drivers and deselect HD Audio. It may be worthwhile to open Device manager, and right click each instance of Nvidia HD Audio and choose to disable. If you ever needed it again, you can always re-enable. A Guy

EDIT:

If you uninstall them, they are back after a restart. I have now disabled them. I did find this procedure to permanently disable them. But a bit overkill for me since I have no issues at this time.

Do you have any previous System images?

Do you feel like Clean Reinstalling following the same steps as in the blue link, to know that drivers are being handled according to Win7 Best Practices and not possibly XPired ones?

So basically clean install Windows again?

As long as it has SP1 to save you hours of updating. If in doubt download the latest from the tutorial.
