Spywareblaster was recommended by some of the most knowledgeable people in the biz imo , i needed a lot of convincing before installing it (no offense either) as i know many here are truly outstanding in their knowledge of computers.

Mbam and Sandboxie along with Kas are the only others i use , if you think thats overdoing it i have to disagree, most guys i am familiar with on sites like Wilders have a hell of a lot more than i do and they think i don't use enough lol.

Experienced users are an exception to the rule of too much security is overkill,
These Geeks would know how to identify processes which might conflict or run at the same time meaning scanning at the same time.....,
This would also depend heavily on the resources available on the machines not everyone has 8-... gig's of ram

As far as a sweet spot I believe I found that place,
The 3 I posted is mine but yes three is plenty if one would need more I'd leave that to the individual,
Just keep in mind all of these utilities update either automatically or on demand and often the updates have the possibility to be a bad apple

Even MBAM has had bad updates in the past so I wouldn't give any third party a hall pass on that possibility

The golden rule is how does the machine and built in Windows programs actually function,
If All Windows programs work then you've found a good combination :thumbsup:

Usually Internet explorer would be the most effected program = Does it work ?
If not then one third party utility might be causing the issue,

I have been back and forth with Kaspersky about compatibility with Mbam and they say Mbam , Spywareblaster, Superantispyware and Sandboxie are not compatible with it .

But i don't think thats true because my parents run Mbam , Spywareblaster, and use Sandboxie and sometimes SAS as an on demand scanner and they never have issues.

My computer , a Win 7 SP1 64 bit machine (same as theirs) has the same (non responding issues and you do lol)

Yep well I don't have any issues anymore with Kaspersky and I run MBAM SAS and ADW whenever I feel the need on all my machines. I don't know whether it is Kaspersky who have decided to let those run alongside or not but in any case it is not before time, because as good as I think Kaspersky is it is like Bill says not infallible like any security stuff.

In general the only time a problem should happen is when two AVs are installed. due to the very nature of AV engines they have to root deeply into protected system files and processes. Since this is how a lot of malware/viruses/Trojans work, the AVs will try to block each other as being malicious.

I lost track of this conversation so i apologize , thanks to all of you who chipped in , it's appreciated. Britton i agree about two AV 's causing problems and there's no need for more than one but i always thought other programs whether they be anti spyware or just general anti malware scanners can cause issues especially if they are running in realtime .

If you have Mbam running in realtime you shouldn't have SAS running in realtime as well for example , i do like SAS for on demand scanning but not realtime protection , i also run Eset on demand scanner at times , it finds things that others don't , especially Pups.

To be honest, real time protection (other then 2 antivirus programs) is a per system issue. I have both MBAM Premium and SAS Pro running side by side real time and no issues whatsoever. But another user may have issues. I actually have many real time protections running, and I see no bad effects from them. A Guy

I once had SAS Pro and Mbam running in realtime and it didn't cause issues or blue screens for me either but i have a feeling it slowed my system.

Can't prove it though , every single computer tech i talked to about it over the years said it's not recommended though i do know that , i would think the more programs you have on your system the more it slows it down even if they are set to scan at different times.

I think I've mentioned it before, but I use the free version of MBAM without realtime protection, so the only time it and Avira are running together are when I open it to update the database or run a scan.

Hello again everyone. I decided to run Malwarebytes today for a scan and one thing I noticed is why is it so slow? I mean the program.. it just hangs when it's doing its usual actions. When I tried updating the defs. it hung and again when it ran the program update it hung. But it didn't hang during scanning. Yes I haven't ran Mbam since easter (is that the reason? old definitions and program?) and I'm also not exactly very updated about Mbam news so can someone tell me if Mbam has any issues like that or what? And can anyone tell me if scans have really improved that much? It took 3 minutes to perform a custom scan compared to 3 hours with Mbam 1.75.

Some people are reporting issues with version 2.
I have version 2 Premium on all (5) my systems and don't have issues.
All the folks I've updated from 1.75 to V 2 also don't have issues.
Scans take a couple of minutes more than 1.75, but no big deal - meh

If you're having issues I think you should post in the MBAM forum, it seems to be "PC specific" from what I've read there.

I don't know how you updated from 1.75 to V2, but maybe you just need to run the mbam-clean utility and reinstall ???

Scan Names changed in version 2, so your custom scan is probably not the same as the scan you did in 1.75 ...

I did not update from 1.75 to ver.2 automatically (that I had to uninstall 1.75-> install v2. I did that a long time ago). I updated from ver 2 something (it was from March I believe) to current v2 something. Reason why I wonder about scans is before during ver. 1.75 it took 3 hours to complete a scan and now it's 3 minutes. Why the jump? Was there some kind of an overhaul to the scanning engine or what? Also, should I try the default "threat scan" or w/e it's called and post how long it takes? I'm just curious, that's all. I have no current issues with mbam. Other than hangs of course but I assume they'll fix it sooner or later.

If you're saying that what used to take 3 hours to scan can now be done in 3 minutes, then that is the opposite of most people's experience and suggests you're not comparing like with like. Which type of scan under ver1.75 are you comparing to which type of scan under ver.2 (and with what settings)?

I did default scans (no custom, no settings unchecked) with ver 1.75 and with custom scans in ver.2. I have everything except rootkit scan enabled with custom scans. Was it possible I also had rootkit scanning enabled during 1.75 (what were the default settings there?) while I do not in ver.2? Or was the rootkit scanning available in 1.75? It just feels weird, like I'm not used to it, or that something is wrong lol.

I'm only a free user of ver1.75, and haven't risked ver2 yet because of the many reports of problems with it. I'm happy to beta games, but not technical programs that can mess up the whole computer, I'm simply not that technical a kind of guy. However, it seems to me that you may be comparing what was a full scan under ver1.75 with the ver2 equivalent of the old quick scan, I can't remember what they changed the name to off-hand (and haven't a clue why they thought that was a sensible thing to do)!

Hey, thanks for telling me that. About the type of scans, there are like, 3 options to choose from, which is the old "full scan"? I think it's "threat scan" or whatever strange terms they use. I also feel there are way too many problems with ver. 2.
1.75 was better (for me anyway) and more stable. Also I've just now registered to malwarebytes.org forum, so hopefully there will be less comments and questions from me, lol.
