Hi,

I have two computers, one laptop and one desktop. I was always able to see my shared desktop folders from the laptop but not vice versa. I recently went on the desktop and joined the same homegroup as the laptop and now I can see some folders on the laptop, but I can't view any other computers in my home. for instance, on my laptop I can browse a third pc and access its printer but this isn't the case with the desktop. The error is 0x80070035.

I have looked in the control panel and all the settings for both machines seem to be identical. They are both running the same OS, Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I can ping the third computer just fine but I can't access it in explorer. I have looked at a number of threads on this forum about this error and couldn't find a solution. What do I do?

Hi publicradio - Welcome to SF,

Do you have any Firewall or Security Software installed - Norton, McAfee, ZoneAlarm or similar?
Please disable it for now, and see if that helps. Might be better to stop any Services of the Security software. Click on Start and type msconfig press enter, then locate Services Tab uncheck any Security software services running.

Also, check that Files and Printer Sharing is enabled or excluded from your Windows Firewall.

I did disable the firewall and this didn't solve the problem. I did discover, however, that if I type \\computername into the address bar, it will connect this way. I wonder why the icons don't work then?

Anyway I am able to connect now and I have isolated the problem. At this point it isn't crucial but it would be good to know why this happens. Thanks.
