Why do you need an installation disk now???

Boot sick laptop from the recover cd and perform a "startup repair". Do it 3 times with reboots in between. Does it find errors? Which one? could he fix it?

You don't need that.

The iso you already have contains plenty of programs.

There is a heart icon on the desktop - click it - and use auto boot repair.

You just need to select the Active partition and the Windows partition in the dropdowns and click Apply

Doesn't see any vista installations? Press next anyway. Use the "startup repair" option

You cannot create startup repar disc form Vista unlees you have the Vista install dvd.

Pointless - if you have the Vista install dvd - recovery options are on there anyway.


The iso he has already downloaded is better than anything else - it took me 3yrs to make.

[I have more programs in the one I use personally - some of them are licensed and some are too difficult for most people to use.]

The programs on the iso he has should be fine.

The message is telling him the bcd entry is wrong - not surprising.

How do you mean previous product key?

Is it giving you non-genuine message?

It might do that if it doesn't recognise where it is - or if the drive letter has changed.

When you boot into Vista is it still showing itself ac C?

Something got damaged /disturbed during your aborted partitioning, it seems.

If you have a pre installed windows - there should be a product key on the machine - perhaps on the side of the case or in the battery compartment under the battery.

If you bought a packaged version, it will be ion the pack.

Ther are programs that can show your key - not sure it will help here, give it a go if you like ProduKey - Recover lost product key (CD-Key) of Windows/MS-Office/SQL Server
