15k RPM HDD

So i wa looking through newegg the other day and i knew 15k rpms existed but i never really heard of anyone using them. im assuming theyre faster than 10k velociraptors but then that would mean they also produce an enormous amount of heat as well? also, i do lots of 3D rendering and HD editing so i need a really fast drive would i just be better off with an SSD?
if someone could post read and write speeds tht would be great

I can't provide the specs, as there are so many of each type of drive, but I will tell you a SSD will beat any platter drive, even a 15K HDD hands down. Access time on a SSD is almost zero, and the read and write will far exceed any 15K drive. Get a SSD

We use 15,000 RPM drives in servers at work and in storage arrays. They don't really give off any more heat in my opinion than 10k drives...But these drives are SCSI or SAS and are much more expensive. If I remember correctly, a 300GB SAS 15K drive for an HP server is about $500-$600 each.

all right, well for a home office i might just get some SSD's in a raid setup. my main concern is really durability and speed. ive heard SSD's produce little heat, so might be a good thing

I'm running one of These for my System ..
And about the only place I notice the speed is the time it takes for Photoshop (and some other heavy apps) to load.

I'm a little worried about wearing it out ... a SSD can only be written to, so many times.
I've been pouring some video and picture work thru it for about 3 months now ... and So far .. So good ..
But I'm wondering what are the effects of wearing one out ??

If it starts acting up .. I'll probably do back to my 7400 rpm HD .. and just wait a few more seconds for PS to fire up.

What is the reason for needing RAID? Is it for performance reasons...or because you need more space than a single SSD would provide?

SSD's give off next to no heat, as they don't have any moving parts. And they make no noise...which I find to be a substantial benefit.

The effects would be an inability to save a new file. However, under extreme use would probably take 5 years. Under pretty moderate to heavy use, I'd bet things will be find for 10+ years. I'm positive I will have replaced my SSD within 10 years.....so I have no concerns about my Intel's lifespan.
