16-bit in XP mode?

I'm sure its been asked before, but...


I have an old 16-bit program that does not need to be installed to run (i.e. doesn't use the windows registry) that ran fine under XP (32) that I am trying to find a way to run from 7 x64.

Will it run from virtual XP?

I honestly do not know the answer to that,
I know that 64-bit supports 32 and 64 but will not run 16 bit.
Now by running a 32 bit Guest os that nativity runs 32 and 16 bit, it may work,
I am not exactly sure.
Can any of the gurus enlighten us?

I'm willing to bet that if it ran under 32-bit XP, then it will run under XPM.

I am pretty sure you can since it emulates a 32 bit processor, but your still under an active 64 bit architecture.

I am not on my x64 machine at the moment. So i can not actively check it

Try it and see..... I'll try ti my self cause I'm not wondering... I'll try to run a 16 bit version of winzip on my XPM 32 bit. my laptop has a 64bit processor with Win 7 Pro 64 installed.

EDIT: it works... I have winzip 6.3 16 bit for windows 3.1 running in Win XP Mode on a 64 bit of windows 7 pro...

One more query then. I tried Sun VBox but it keeps crashing out when trying to recognize a USB drive. Is Windows Virtual PC better?

I also noticed that VirtualBox crashed on me a couple times for other reasons. VMware Player never crashed on me.
