16-Bit incompatibility problem w/ Kaspersky?

I'm getting an error message when I try to invoke Kaspersky Internet Security 2012.
It tells me that AVP.EXE can't start because of an incompatibility issue with Win 7 64-bit.

This is new. I've been running Kaspersly and Win 7 for some time now and suddenly Windows Defender ( an incompatible program that was disabled) wants to run scans and Kaspersky can't start.

I'm thinking of trying to find a way to kill Defender once and for all ( will a 45 ACP do it?) and then uninstall and reinstall Kaspersky.

Except today the Kaspersky site is experiencing issues. They say they are moving.

Any ideas?

He's complaining of AVP.EXE using up his CPU. That's a problem Kaspersky has on XP systems I should know because I use a dedicated XP box with older drives for surfing unsavory or unsafe sites. If it blows up on me I don't much care. It chews up most of my CPU for a very long time on start up.


Anyway that guys problems are different from mine. I can't get AVP.exe to start up because of a reported 16- bit \ 64-bit incompatibility.

See if turning it off will help.

Nope it doesn't.
However I have fixed the problem.

At first I tried to kill defender and then reinstall KIS over top of itself. That didn't work
Then I uninstalled KIS then did a reinstall keeping the activation features.
It found that windows firewall was also up and running and killed that during the installation.

I have no clue why my system thought that KIS had downward migrated into a 16 bit program nor how defender and windows firewall were activated. I am guessing some hot shot moron at Microcrash pulled an "I know better" and managed to override KIS, crippling it and putting their Microcrash garbage security software in the fore n in one of the updates they regularly issue.

Other than that, I am out of guesses.
