2 fundamental suggestions for Windows 7

1. A better file-copy dialog ( _resume capability_ + basic rule settings before execution)

2. One thing that all novice users in Windows struggles with is to understand that the Start Menu consists of shortcuts and doesn't necessarily reflect what's really installed on the machine.

Why don't MS make it so that the 'Program Files' directory is synced or in fact shows the actual directory itself with visual filters (only .exe)? Or a better solution: Change the Installer criteria so that developers have to mark the launchers for a given program with an attribute so Start Menu can figure out what to display and not display?

In addition, right clicking an element on the Start Menu should give the option to uninstall..

Any thoughts?

I see your point, kind of, as it seems to be addressed to MS.

But the idea was to see if others responded positively to the ideas for improvements to Windows 7. As this is a forum for enthusiasts? Or are you not discussing windows 7 in here at all?

If an undertone can be interpreted from your post, it must be that you for sure thought that they were extremely silly suggestions. On a general basis I would say such attitude doesn't spark or motivate for discussion on any forum.

You can discuss Windows 7 as much as you like but they are not going to hear your suggestions unless you send it to them, basically you want this thread to be about suggestions on other things they should include to make this the best windows ever and that's cool, just make sure we are also telling them.

One way to ensure your suggestions get through to Microsoft is to use the Send Feedback option, within winsows 7, as these go directly to the actual teams involved in the development process

I read someone else comments, comparing Windows Control Panel with Mac OS 10's and I could see that there might be some improvements there but as far as changing the Program Files list and listing everything that is installed I would say bad idea. There are things that are installed that you don't need to see listed. In fact, I keep my Program Files list and desktop rather clean of clutter knowing that if I want to see what is installed, I can go to the Add/Remove (or whatever MS renamed it). Also note that a huge chunk of MS installs are on business computers and IT wants the user to focuse on needed applications, not on apps that they place on PCs for corporate reasons, such as AV.

And I aggree with the resume file transfer for both IE and Explorer. I have no idea why with even version 8 IE still does not have a pause/resume. Explorer might be more problematic but not undoable.
