I have been reading threads in here for a week or so that seem to have sililiar problems but, a little different.

The PC I'm having the issue with is not the 1 in my Bio it is

Asus M4A875-5
AMD Phenom X4 9850 2.5 GHz
4GB Kingston PC6400 800mhz ramm
Raygo ATX mid size tower with 450 watt ps
WD 1.5 TB HDD
Win 7 Ultimate 64Bit
Samsung sata TS-H663C
EVGA 9500GT 1GB Video card (very small)

I also have 2-WD 1TB hdds.
The 3 hdds all worked flawlessly for a yr and a half since I put this together. This is the downstairs family pc.

Now for no reason, no error , no warning nothing the 2 extra hdds just disappear. If I reboot they come back most but not all of the time. This is something that started about 4 months ago but, this pc never ever gets turned off . At first it would happen but if wee rebooted it would come back and stay there for weeks but now if we reboot and they re appear they may last 2-3 days tops and then disapear again. I get no BSOD or any error at all they just vanish. They are not visable in disk management it is like they don't exist.

Before anyone asks the mobo is fine and all of the cables are snug.

Go into power options and set them to never sleep.
That would be the quickest fix I could think of.
I think they are failing to kick on when they are called on after entering low power mode.
If I had more technical information to go on I might be able to say exactly why, but this is what I have for you at the moment.
Obviously going by asus and checking for driver updates could potentially help as well.
(or just google your model number should be among the top results)

bulldog,
my suspicion is that the power supply is acting up, but that is only a guess.

Be sure to:

  • power down
  • disconnect power cable
  • remove cover
  • blow out all dust everywhere
  • replace cover (if you desire)
  • reconnect power cable
  • power up
  • install speccy (link in my signature)
  • Use speccy to keep an eye on temps

Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
I'm gonna take home a new PS from work and see if that's it. I too suspected that but, I read somewhere that others had a driver issue that caused this so I posted primarily because I thought it was a common issue and maybe had a common solution. (ya right never my luck)

Did you ever resolve this problem ?, I have 2x 2TB Western Digital caviar green HDD and they seem to behave the same. If I'm using drive letter F then that disk drive will at some point disappear so I changed to using just disk drive E and found that disappears at some point to. They're file synchronized backups using GoodSync software

I really don't think it's the hard disk drives, I have 5x 2TB Western Digital Caviar Green and have switched them all around from internal to external etc and doesn't matter which drive it is the same behavior occurs randomly and spontaneously on a monthly basis's. I run my operating system on Corsair Force Series 3 120GB SSD and power settings are set to Never with advanced settings for hard disk drive to never as well..

Please help as it's making me anxious and paranoid whilst doing large file transfers & synchronized backup :( Personally have only experienced this whilst being on Windows 7 and have changed sata cables around etc nothing seems to solve
