2 Windows 7 machine can't see each other...

Hi guys n gals,

I have 2 Windows 7 64 bit machines (Server1 + Client1) that are on the same (wireless) network. They can both see the router and the internet but they cannot see each other.

One machine (Server1) serves as a media server to my PS3 and this works fine. Server1 also acts as a Team Foundation server for the development work I do at home.

While my PS3 can see Server1 the machine I actually do the development work on (Client1) cannot see the Team Foundation server.

Server1 and Client1 cannot ping each other either by IP or by hostname.


This didn't used to be a problem until I had some router issues recently. It looks like in an effort to resolve what turned out to be a router issue I manage to damage the connection between these 2 machines.

I have since replaced the router and still no change. All other machine can see each other.


Anyone got any ideas?

Do you have Discovery ON ?

Yes, discovery is turned on for the Home network on both machines and the wireless network is defined as a home network on both boxes.

What Antivirus and/or firewall is active on either computer?
Can you ping from one to the other?

What about map to via \\PCname?

Can't ping either from either.

Both are running ESET Nod 32

I'd left a reference to each machine in the other's hosts file (when I was trying to resolve the issue on the old router).

New router, new IP DHCP server, new IP addresses...

Thought I'd already removed it to be honest...
