Solved 24GB Memory Windows 7 PRO 64, Usage 60%

I have 24GB Memory installed on my computer , yet my memory usage is 55-60% yet when i check the memory usage in the performance it does not add up to 60% of my memory being used, this is causing me performance issue.

Can anyone give me some clarity why a 24GB system is using so much memory?

My system I7 980, 24GB DDR3 RAM , SSD 500GB, ATI R9 270x

What are you doing that`s causing the cpu go to 32%

Could you also post a shot of resource monitor showing the memory tab.

I'm no expert on this but do understand that there's more to it than simply adding up the total usage shown in the Private Bytes column.

How big is your page file ?

Restart the pc and give another shot of RM.

You seem to be running VMware, any virtual OS running while you took that screenshot? I know VirtualBox doesn't show how much a Virtual OS eats (only shows its own process which is 300-400MB), so maybe VMware behaves the same? Unfortunately, you deleted the process names from your first screenshot (which 1.9GB maybe that).

I stopped Vmware running 1 vm machine, now memory running at 22% , never thought vmware would eat so much resources..

I feel my system is limited, will upgrading to 64GB ram resolve the issue?

You can lower the RAM allocated to the VM machine from VMware settings somewhere. 4GB will be enough for a smooth Win7 64 bit experience. I had problems with for example Windows Update when allocated was 2GB (too slow to find updates and apply them), came back to its senses after increasing to 4GB.

24GB is more than enough for most situations. Don't forget 8GB is already a good amount of memory (for regular usage and gaming) and you would have more than that running a VM machine anyway. I believe there would be no reason for you to upgrade to 64GB. I see only a few people here with so much RAM, maybe they will comment too.

You should trim your page file down to 2 GB or so, that`s valuble real estate being taken up.

With 16 GB I haven`t used a page file in over 2 years.

Your specs say you have Home Premium.

Isn't that limited to 16 GB, regardless of how much RAM you have in the slots?

And 110 processes. That's a pile.

If one wants to use 24 gigs of ram one needs Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate.

Home Premium top out a 16 gigs.

No my system is windows 7 Pro 64bit.

Source of the problem was VMware, it was just sucking the resources and also page file system was way too high, not sure why windows set it to 24547, i reduce it to half.

Because you have 24 GB of memory.

You can set it much lower then 12.

I believe that Windows will by default set the pagefile to memory size, based on the principle that you will have a workload proportional to your memory size. In the event that your workload is smaller a much smaller pagefile is adequate.

Reduced the pagefile size and removed vmachine , now everything is good.
