2mins delay during boot after "loading windows files" before Desktop

Hi everyone,
I have had a search around for the issue I am having but I find it hard to explain.

I currently run windows of a crucial m400 SSD and it used to boot in less than a minute. More recently (and apparently overnight) boot time became several minutes.

I turned on verbose boot and it loads the files very quickly (just scans quickly infront of me) and then when it comes to the screen that reads the following (and see attached):

"Microsoft (R) Windows (R) Version 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1)

8 System Processors [8184 MB Memory] Multiprocessor Kernel"

It sits there for several minutes before then loading the desktop.

I am unsure how to diagnose this issue further and would greatly appreciate some guidance onto how to drill down into this further.

Thanks,
Chalima

Hello and welcome Chalima if you haven't done these already you could start with this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html
then
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html
onto this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/220165-troubleshooting-steps-windows-7-a.html

You could just quickly check in msconfig what you have starting at boot too I just keep security ticked (try first)

Start > type msconfig > right click run as admin > check the Start as in pic .

Plus you always have my favourite http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11728-optimize-windows-7-a.html?filter[2]=Performance Maintenance

Usual suspects:

Any new apps / updates installed

An AV set to check scan on startup

Try a safe boot. If it loads like it used to, that should point to a system change.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the advice.

I did a disk check and everything was fine, I limited the startup items and it made no difference.

I also tried to boot in safe mode and it was super fast again. So how do I know eliminate the likely culprit?

Thanks,
Chalima

Hi Guys,
It turns out it was either ffdshow or AC3 filter - I un-installed these and it works like a charm again :)

Thank you all so much for both your helpful advice and your patience!

Thanks,
Charlie
