Solved 2nd HDD (1TB) is recognized in bios, not in Win 7 disk management

The problem is pretty much sum'd up in the title. I have a 1TB Western Digital Blue Caviar sata HDD hooked up to the motherboard. A while back, when I went to go boot up the PC, the HDD busy light just stayed solid, and windows 7 took a lot longer than usual to load. When it does, I can't use the hard drive. I have tried to rescan for it in disk management and exhausted all most all the fixes I can find in threads on the net.

I know it's not a totally dead disk, because a couple times the C: drive (boot drive) automatically ran CHKDSK, it seemed to repair 1 or 2 small files, a file structure, or something, and then the D drive would return for a couple days before the problem returned.

I replaced the Sata cable with a new one, it started working again, but only for a few days. I'm kind of baffled on this one. Usually I figure these things out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Have a good day.

Are C and D both partitions on this single WD Blue?

Or do you have 2 distinct drives?

Not sure what you've tried, but have you run any Western Digital drive diagnostic utilities?

Have you connected the problem drive to several different motherboard ports?

Please tell us about your "Pennsylvania" operating system.

They are 2 distinct pieces of hardware. The boot drive C is a 500gb WD Blue. The D drive is a 1Tb. I've tried the utilites on the WD website, it won't recognize the D drive, just like windows disk management won't. I've changed the port that D drive was attached to, and changed the cable, like I said in the original post. It will fix the problem temporarily it seems, but only for a day or two and it will disappear again, I don't know why.

Ok, everything should be updated. It's been quite a while since I've used the Win 7 forums.

If a new SATA cable caused the problem drive to be recognized briefly, it's tempting to say the problem is related to the port/cable connection. But I guess that could be a coincidence.

Can you connect the problem drive to some other computer to see if it is easily recognized there?

Have you attempted to connect the problem drive to ALL compatible ports on the motherboard?

Intermittent problems are difficult.

Is the stuff on the problem drive backed up anywhere?

Do you have any other spare drive you could connect to see if it also has recognition problems when using the same cable and port as the problem drive?

Also check the 1TB HDD cable if firmly push in; and on the MB, if any.
As you mentioned HDD light stay on, may means trying to read and connect.

Thanks for your help. I changed where everything was plugged into the sata ports on the mobo. DVD to 0 , the Win 7 boot drive to 1, and the drive that wasn't showing up in windows to 2. They were plugged in hap-hazard like before. Problem solved. Drive D: showed up in disk management and has been working since (about a week ago, sorry for the late reply). HDD light working as it should now.
