2nd monitor recognized but black

Hi, I have a pavilion g6 with w7 home. it was working fine with both screens working then I moved. now the second screen is recognized but black. amd radeon graphic card - they just did an update today. I did a reset but hasn't made a difference.

Then you moved... Moved house/ physical movement of monitor?

Have you tried switching sreens ie swap primary/secondary to see if the screens comes on or stays black?

Drivers don't sound like the issue.

Under screen resolution settings, do you see an option to extend your monitor to the second one? Are both monitors detected there?

Seriously, cables most likely issue here, check connections on both ends, swap them out for new ones if doesn't help.

Reseat the video card as well, moving could have loosened it in the slot, might as well clean the slot too, if going in there, and the fan, with can of compressed air and soft cloth, while unplugged of course.


A very sloppy move could break the cables, they are delicate creatures especially if the cheapo variety.

2nd Monitor is Black

Win7
1. Go to: Control Panel > Display > Change Display Settings (this will take you to screen resolution).
2. Click on the image of the screen that is "black" and then click "Identify".
3. If both monitors are recognized and your monitor is still black, turn off the black monitor, wait a few seconds and turn it back on.
4. If the monitor is still black, check the box: "Make this my main display.", click "Apply" then click "OK".
5. Change your main display back to the preferred screen.
