Can you clone XP mode and use it to test software etc and then delete it when done leaving your original XP mode intact and unchanged?

I previous deleted a virtual machine which was a copy of the original WinXP mode before I found these tutorials. Now my link to WinXP mode form the start mode doesn't work. I have to start by going to the virtual machine and picking the WinXP mode. How do I edit the shortcut on the start menu as I'm guessing that pointing to the deleted files. Sorry for such a basic question.
