Today I received a case (NZXT phantom) and I was looking at the connectors to the fans, The fan ends are connected to a male 3 pin to make it longer but it doesn't have a female end, shouldn't they add that? Or do I need to buy them? Or am I being stupid and 3pin male connectors are on the motherboard. someone shed some light on my stupidity.

Yes that is the very end of the fan cables, there's labels (not in pic) stating there the top side and back fans

There is an onboard fan controller on the case, so those plug into that. Pity, you can't replace the fans with aftermarket if they have male ends.

Wait I think I know what your talking about, those plug into the fan controller and the fan controller cables runs to the PSU or motherboard am I wrong?

erm nvm, there is a molex connector comming out of the controller for power and the other females plugged into to control the fans? does that power the fans as well... im so confused, this is my first time dealing with a fan controller, I always though you just plug it in and go..

Yup, that's how it works. I looked up the case @ NZXT's website, and they show it plugged into the fan controller, and there should be a molex connector that plugs into the PSU.

I think I understand now correct me If I'm wrong, The fan controller is the power for the fans, those extra connectors leading down are for extra fans, like the front and the side that don't have fans...??
