32-bit or 64-bit on 2 GB of RAM?

Title says it all. Which would be more efficient?

P.S. The CPU is 64-bit compatible (Core 2 Duo E7400)

But personally, I would max out the ram and install 64 bit, I would always install 64 bit with a 64 bit capable cpu, no matter the amount of memory installed now, you can always add more.

If I couldn`t install more then 2 GB of memory, I would throw that motherboard in the trash.

If this were your situation........

Why install 32 bit, then a week or month from now say hey, I`ll add more memory then need to install 64 bit to take advantage of all the memory, that would be just silly.

And remember, it`s all about how much memory your motherboard will support and use. Read your specs.

A 64 bit OS has some serious advantages but you need adequate RAM to realize them. A 64 bit OS will run with 2 GB RAM but it will not reach it's true potential. Any modern OS, 32 bit or 64 bit, is going to be limited with only 2 GB RAM. With 4 GB RAM a 64 bit OS is a good option while with more than 4 GB it is required.

With only 2 GB RAM a 32 bit OS is usually preferred but you really should upgrade to to at least 4 GB.

Yep 64 bit is a minimum of 4gb's of ram so if you want to upgrade that I'd use 64 bit seeing as this is a desktop you have

The best upgrade for either 32 or 64 bit is upgrading to a ssd the difference is like night and day compared to a hdd.
Quite a few cheap 250gb ssd's out there last I saw 80.us for a samsung or Crucial...

If you're donating it why does it matter

It's already been said 64 bit will be fine on 4gb's of ram
32 bit would only acknowledge 3gb's being installed anyway.

I had 64 bit and 2GB RAM. But I upgraded my RAM to 4GB. The 32 bit would be more RAM efficient, but the 64 bit would be more practical.
