Hi all, I'm trying to save my 32 bit 2003 Microsoft Publisher app from extinction, so I have a question. I just bought a new computer with WIN7x64, and I have a copy of Microsoft Publisher on my old XP computer that I would like to move to the new computer because I have a lot of Publisher files that I don't want to lose. Can I install 32 bit software on a 64 bit system? I seem to remember reading that you can but I can't find where I read it, and I don't want to try to install it unless I know I can do it. Thanks in advance for your answer. :)

Yes you can install 32 bit programs on 64-bit Windows 7 there are two folders in C one is Program File for 64-bit and Program File(86) for 32 bit your program will know where to go.
You may need to run that program in Compatibility Mode http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html

Thanks for the help. I checked your compatibility link, and my software is too old. Upon checking, I found that it is the 2002 version of Publisher. I didn't remember that I had it that long. That would be pushing it. :p The link suggested that I upgrade to the 2010 version.

Given your specs, just virtualize a copy of XP and run your older Office suite in there.

I'd give it a go anyway, just create a restore point before hand as a backup point. I'm running office 2003 on Home Premium x64 with no problems. Your mileage may vary though. ;) :)

You really should have no trouble running any version of Office applications in Windows 7. Microsoft is very good about making sure their apps retain some compatibility. There may have been some issues when Win7 was releleased, but there have been numerous compatibility updates that have likely resolved any issues.

By the way, there is a sticky thread in the first 3 threads of this forum called 32 bit vs 64 bit comparison. I suggest you read it, it covers all this stuff.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I may give it a try after I check a few places for a sale on Publisher V2010. I got my V2002 for $50 that way.
