32bit to 64bit upgrade

Hello, I currently own a license for Windows 7 professional 32bit, which I upgraded from Vista using a student discount. I want to upgrade my laptop's ram memory from 3gb to 5gb or 6gb. I know that 32bit operating systems only support up to 4gb, and even then in actuality it's only like 3.2gb. Is there a way I can upgrade my Windows 7 32bit to Windows 7 64bit at a discounted price, even if it's to home premium instead? If not, does anyone know how to have a 32bit operating system recognize more than 4gb of ram?

If you can obtain a 64 bit install DVD, you can use your 32 bit key with it, but you will have do do a complete Clean Install for the 64 bit.

I heard that there was a away to force windows 7 32bit to address more than 4gb. Google it m8.

As far as I'm concerned you need to have a 64-bit computer in order to use a 64-bit operating system... Make sure your PC is 64 bit otherwise you won't be able to install a 64-bit windows 7.

More likely than not, if your windows vista was a 32-bit operating system which is appears to be, then your system is mostlikely 32-bit.

Double check to make sure because I could be wrong.

Well, I have a Dell XPS M1530 with a dual 2ghz processor and 3gb of RAM, 256mb of graphics memory. I am not exactly sure what the requirements of 64bit is, but I think I may have the requironments

Try going on Dell site and see what OS upgrades they offer. If the machine can handle 64 bit OS it should be available as an upgrade(not that you have to buy from them but it should indicate upgrades are possible.) I looked up the model number and all I got on it on Intel site for the CPU was "64 bit instruction set" along with some FSB stats. But that is not all you need. Stuff like DMA and other memory hardware should be checked out before knocking yourself out trying to get the OS on.

Dell likely has a user forum where you could find out quickly if people have used 64 bit Windows with few hassles etc..

You don't want to wipe it only to have to put everything back to 32 bit land.

Yah, my hard drive is bad and I am replacing it soon. I was planning on a fresh install anyway
