4 Channel Output Bug

I have a Creative Audigy 2ZS card and a 4.1 system hooked up to it. When I installed the RC I setup 7 for the quadraphonic output, and when I test the speakers in the configuration tool it detects and plays the sound through each of the speakers. But when I go to play mp3s through foobar2000 (after enabling the stereo to 4 channel mod) or through any other media player it doesn't play any sound through the surround speakers. It also doesn't play any of the windows sounds through them, it's like the surround speakers only work for the sound test and then it just forgets about them.
Is this a driver bug? Windows bug? User error?

I have no idea about your specific card, but here is what's happening.
The test is made to output sound to each of the 4 channels.
When you play normal stereo 2 channel music, it's only going to the front speakers because there are only 2 inputs, as you can think of it.

In order to play throughout all 4 channels, there must be some kind of channel duplicating configuration either within the player or the driver itself.

I'd start looking in the driver settings first. So, Windows is not forgetting there are 4 channels. It is just not being told to use them correctly, even though all are enabled.

Well i had same problem with Audigy SE and Realtek ...

I have all speakers working perfectly in settings but none when i play music.

CMSS in EAX console didnt work with any driver. With some drivers it just gave no audio device warning. And with some it was there but had no effect what ever you change.

Realtek speaker fill gave sound from all speakers ... BUT... rear speakers sound horible with heavy hiss and no vocals.

I tried much stuff like ffdshow and some more similar stuff to try encode/ decode audio in surround sound. None gave any result.

In the end what i did was taken my old splitter i used to have multiple headsets (a normal 2/1 splitter) and plugged it in front channel in my realtek. Left setting in realtek audio manager as 5.1 and designated the newly plugged front and rear speaker with the splitter as Front Speakers.

I get all speakers and nice sound now. You can do the same thing for any Creative card as a temporary sollution untill some working drivers with working CMSS come out so we can all enjoy music in full surround sound.

I guess the splitter looks a bit like this tho mine is different xD
