so I have tried it out for a few days and no BSOD slight over heating but not as bad but a new bsod happens. when I plug anything into the ports on the left side the BSOD pops up and shuts down. I tried a usb, passport and a mouse and its only the 2 ports. Should I try one more time to uninstall the drives and reboot or is it possible that usb ports can go bad? I dont think they can be replaced because they are all built into the motherboard. I am getting over a nasty cold so I will be having someone come out and see what they can do, this is someone my family knows instead of taking it to my normal place. Its going to need a reload and I have to have him look at the big PC bc there is adware and malware that will not go away so we are going to do 2 birds with one stone. thanks again for all the help, I am just trying to figure out if my laptop had had it because i dont want to put anymore money in it.

If it doesn't do it on all USB ports, then I would try disabling the drivers for the problem ports; reboot; enable them; reboot and then try them again.

I vaguely remember that, on certain motherboards with one type of bus controller, not all the ports would work. That was at least four or five years ago and I can't remember if the applicable ports were the SATA on the motherboard or the USB ports.

I was able to remove all the drives again bc the others were acting up and after a few unsuccessful tries I finally got all the ports working correctly again and I have been monitoring the temperture. No BSOD so far I will report back in a few days and if all is ok I will mark this as solved. thank you for everyones help

Test your RAM and HDD!

To test RAM

  1. Click Start, type mdsched.exe in the Search box, and then press Enter.
  2. Choose whether to restart the computer and run the tool immediately or schedule the tool to run at the next restart.
  3. Windows Memory Diagnostics runs automatically after the computer restarts and performs a standard memory test automatically.
To test HDD
SeaTools for Windows, being that your drive is SeaGate the tool has a repair function only for SeaGate drives. Run SMART Short Drive Self-Test and Short Generic, if any fail, try the seatools repair then test again. Another failure, backup you drive with full system image and purchase a new drive.

Give axe0 a shout via PM (private message) if it continues.

I set the memory test for next reboot, and I just had a brand new hard drive put in it 2 months ago and it was tested last time it was in. I will report back with the restults to the memory test.

EDIT I ran the memory test and after a few unsuccessful tries it finally completed and no issues found.

So just an update, sorry for the lond delay. I have run the laptop non stop for the last couple weeks. I think there was a BSOD that popped up a few weeks earlier but I know for over a week there hasnt been one. The over heating has stopped completely and given how old the laptop actually is its running very fast. I will have to take it in to have the software reloaded to fix my blank background and some of the programs dont work the greatest but I can at least download, watch movies and use the internet so I am happy for now. I Im just gonna keep using it until it finally dies im just more cautious to make sure and remove all my files every few days. I cant thank everyone enough for helping me. and as of now I will be marking this topic closed. thanks again and Happy Holidays.
