Solved 52 Updates need to be installed.

This computer needs to have 52 updates installed...

How do I do this??

The computer was purchased in November of 2009 and no updates have been installed.

Hello Vickie,

I would recommend to install only the SP1 update first to eliminate some of the others, then only install the ones that are selected by default each time you check for updates until no more are selected by default. From here, only install a few at a time to avoid them from conflicting with each other while installing.

If you have Windows Ultimate, then you will not need to install any language packs unless you needed to use that display language.

You're welcome.

You could either install SP1 through Windows Updates, or you could download the same 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) standalone SP1 EXE installer at the Microsoft below as your 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) Windows 7.

EDIT:
Language packs (see below) are used to change the display language of Windows 7 to that language. You can use the tutorial below to see what edition of Windows 7 you have.

When I did a recent fresh install of Win 7, I had to install several updates prerequisite to SP1.

So if I don't need to change the language of the computer.. I don't need to mess with the Language packs?

Britton, will it tell me if i need those updates first?

Also... this computer has 64 and 32 bit... which one do I use to install the update?

You only need the language you'll use, English US I suspect. My way of doing the updates was to install all until SP1 was offered. You should read over each one, sometimes one will tell you it needs to be installed first.
On the Language packs, you may right click each one and select Hide This Update.

It can be only 32bit OR 64 bit, not both. Hold the Windows logo key (one with the flag) and Pause break at the same time, this will show your system properties. There it will say which windows you have.

You most likely will not need to mess with the language packs at all. The link below will help you to tell if you have 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7 installed, so you will know what SP1 version to download.. It cannot be both.

Vicki you will need the 64 bit SP1 if you are using the stand alone one.

You can run 32-bit programs, but you will have to install the windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe SP1 file from the link above if you wanted to use the standalone SP1 installer.

Hello!
I finally had time today to do all the updates...and it was way more than I thought...lol!
I did the SP1 first, then I took a chance and did the remaining ones. These were all Critical Updates for Windows. Then I did the Microsoft Office ones.
I have not noticed any problems... is there anything that I should look for??

Also there are still 5 listed as Important that I did not do.. one of them is the Browser Update to 9?
Do I need to do them? Or any of the optional ones.

That's great news. It sounds like everything went fine then. If there was a problem, you would get a failure notice for any Windows Update that failed to install.

I would recommend to install the Important updates as well. If you really didn't want to install IE9, then it would be fine to skip it. However, it does have better security. Optional updates are optional to install as well, but I would recommend to read what they are for to see if you may want or need to install them. For example, if you have MSE installed, MSE definition updates are optional, but should be installed to keep MSE up to date.

MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) is a antivirus/malware program by Microsoft used as an example. It's definition updates are available in Windowss Update when installed.

No, you will not lose anything that was set in IE8. It will all be transferred into IE9.
