and not fixed.
really starting to piss me off bigtime cous forcing res will just display 960x1200 on screen.
while windows giving my screen 1920x1200 60 hz signal.
causing whole image to be corrupt.

i'm suprised nvidia did't even fix this with 186.08.

I read somewhere that it is really just a UI bug because the actual frequency is 59.993 or similar and Win 7 shows the lower limit. It's like when Vista refused to show 4gb of RAM in x86. Now it shows it whether or not it uses it.

Let's get this straight folks. This is NOT a bug. It's a bug FIX. Windows never calculated refresh rates exactly before and that caused issues with some flat panels. In 99.999% cases just because it's showing 59Hz (actually 59.994 internally) doesn't mean the world is coming to an end because it will have NO EFFECT on your experiece. Let's start talking about the ILL EFFECTS of this 59Hz thing rather than trying to fix something that's not broken!

here's a good reason there was't anything wrong to begin with.
now whenever i try watch movies on my 2e screen and game on main screen media player crashes or loses focus or freeze up.
this does't happen with all games some games i can set 59 hz and then its np.
but some games dont let me use 59hz.

i tested this running wow 60hz also takes long time to start up and makes media player freeze.
but at 59 hz it does't take long.
problem tough is not every game lets me choose wich refreshrate i wanna use.

edit:

now its getting totaly weird
for some reason it reversed the 59 hz bug to 60hz bug i cant set it to 59hz.
i still dont known if this bug is permanent.
or causing more bugs.

edit: i rebooted.
and it was 59 hz again i set 60 hz and this time it stay's.
i used direct refresh tool to force 59hz perhaps it has anything to do with it.
also dxdiag reports 60hz now.
and i also checked task manager to be sure direct refresh is running still and its not.

I think the point the gamers are trying to get across is that several games don't play well at odd frequencies. Windows should be rounding up to 60hz in this case and telling whatever graphics software the same thing.

It's a brand new issue with Win 7 so obviously MS need to sort it out in cooperation with graphics card manufacturers.

screenshot to proof i actualy did fix my 59 hz bug.

also media player crashed on my 2e screen when desktop set to 59 hz and game go's 60 hz.
it also took way longer to startup games this way.
if i had option to set 59 hz ingame then it booted fast and media player did't crash.

edit: i cant set 59hz anymore now tough it just flips back to 60hz.

edit2:
nvm it was rivatuner where i forced 59hz causing 60hz to work.
still no proper fix.

I did it OK when I had Win 7 beta but since RC can't get a custom setting to stick unfortunately. In my case, as I'm not a gamer, I'm not concerned.

forcing 60 hz trough rivatuner works.
but some games refuse to run aka screen flashes.
trying force 59 hz trough source command line.
screen flashes again while i'm not forcing through rivatuner.

why force 59 hz ?
else media player crashes......
so for whoever thinks 59 60 hz 1 hz does't make a diference it does.
its giving nothing more then head ache and tons issues that i dont got under vista.
and no i dont care that 59 hz is 59.996 or 59.995 or whatever.
what i want is 60hz....... to work without forcing it like it does under vista.

I´m also stuck at this too, not even the Catalyst CC can help me.

I see lots of user saying to stop wasting time, because 59hz and 60hz are almost the same, and impossible to notice for the human eye. Well, its a false statement i have to say: As one user already stated, there are a lot of applications and fullscreen 3d games that require that 1hz lack, because they are programed to follow the standard refresh rate of monitors. Most of them have problems running something like 1680x1050 @59hz!

Here are some examples: When working with large pictures and photos like i do in photoshop, lets say from 7 to 10 million pixels, there are LARGE problems refreshing the pictures, while dreagging them from side to side, even editing them.
Also, in games, for example, Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 reacts very badly to the 59hz problem, resulting in huge translucid squares sailing in the screen twisting everything in its way, even slowing the game so much ,it looses its playability.

Theres more: I agree in being difficult to notice the lack of 1hz, but people should know that eyes get a lot tired when screens are not refreshing properly, especially when working or playing fullscreen games for many hours.

Hope i dont start a war with this, im only trying to help others, and me of course.

Cheers.

Perhaps...

I stumbled upon RefreshForce's Home. I got there from a link on TweakGuides. Yes, it is an older program and makes no reference to even Vista. Yes, it refers specifically to a Windows 2000/XP refresh rate problem.

Butt, it might work.
Head on.

You used the wrong "but" ;)

You could choose to have it display modes "that the monitor cannot display." Right click on the desktop and choose Screen Resolution > Advanced > Monitor, and you'll see the refresh rate along with a checkbox underneath it. Just check off that box and see what you can do.

I call it the craptop.
Got the new ATI CCC/Display drivers (9.6), crossing my fingers that this would be solved, besides the changelog saying nothing about it. No luck, im still stuck on 59, even choosing in 'list all modes'...

Ill get mad if this is on RTM...
