......sounds to me the idiot you talked to did not even understand the problem! Microsoft providing Bangalore quality support? - interesting!:party:

That's off-shore outsourcing at its finest!

I have ATI but I unchecked in CCC - Detect whenever CCC is opened - in Display Detection Option, and the 60hz is now locked in W7 display options. Something like detection of displays in Nvidia Control Panel could possibly do the trick

Bad news, guys: NVIDIA knows about this 59Hz problem and they say that it is up to Microsoft to fix it.
Yes, and Microsoft says that this is a feature - not a bug.

Check out the Nvidia Release Notes for Driver Vesion 196.21

(See Windows 7 Limitations under page 17)

and Microsoft's KB2006076.

The bad news is that you clearly haven't read the comments on here - since everything you wrote here has been written before, and not even too many pages before the one you landed on. If you choose to contribute to a forum, at least read a few pages back from the last one so that you can get caught up and not duplicate the efforts made by others. On that note, thanks for the effort.

I've tried everything suggested here that is relevant to my hardware spec, but when I start a 3D game, I get any 2D content that shows before the game loads then when the 3D engine tries to kick in I get a black screen with the sound playing. When I check Task Manager, the game is running, it just can't be used.

Any suggestions beyond what's here?

I think the 59hz issue happens as soon as you make any resolution change. As if the original 60hz configuration got damaged. Then the solution is just delete the 60hz original resolution. So you have to go
to a 1280x720 resolution mode and delete de 1920x1080@60hz from there, otherwise it wouldnt be posible.

Then while staying in 1280 resolution, create a fresh new 1920x1080@60hz one - 32bits color of course - in manual mode and changing - below - 60.000hz to 60.001hz. Once this resolution is created, close the nvidia control panel, change to the new resolution by the windows tap and problem will finish.

It worked perfect for me at least. But take into account that the problem will appear again as soon as you made a new resolution change.

I also think that it was affecting the performance rather much since I was playing NFSCarbon perfect at 60hz but it was lagging a lot at 59hz. So I don't think it was just a reporting mistake made by the OS.

Solution for some?

Hey all, I found something that is maybe the reason the custom resolution works for some of you and not for others. Apologies if this has been said before, not gonna read the entire thread.

The original instructions just say to create a custom resolution and then go straight to manual timing. This failed for me when I tried to put 60.001 "Test" went grey. What I did then was change the top number from 59 to 60. After that it let me use 60.001 in manual timing:

I didn't actually solve it and did the easy way out. I connected my hdmi 32 inch (native 1080i) monitor via my 8800's DVi output. I then set my tv on auto scan and the desktop fit the screen. I didn't do any tweak, like I said I did the easy and lazy way out.

The only tip I can offer is that if this problem crops up try using switching a DVi or HDMI cable to the video card output instead of a VGA cable. Then see if you can adjust the monitor's resoluion to auto scan.

Try to uncheck in CCC - Detect whenever CCC is opened - in Display Detection Option, and the 60hz is now locked in Windows 7 display options.
Otherwise just try to mess around til you get the 60hz in W7 display options.

well I have a a friend using NVDIA Quadro fx. and he seems to have the same 59 Hz. Is this some normal issues with Nvdia? I'm using Ati and it works fine always 60Hz

I have it set to manual detection, it doesn't help

this is a persistent problem and for some resin three seems to be notable eye strain caused by the fractional refresh rate as displayed by various different applications.

However I have a EPIC problem.
on the Sony VAIO AW series lap tops nvidia 9600m gt cards are used. Only sony drivers can be used with these cards and Sony has not updated the Nvidia drivers for over 2 years. The Sony drivers are crippled and there is no custom resolution button.

I used the recommended manual method to override the display EDID and created a new driver however I am too unfamiliar to get the default driver to be 60.0001 kz. I seem to be able to change all the other "options" but getting the default or changing the native resolution in Phenix in block one detailed timings has not happened. It is really difficult for me to know what to change to get the refresh rate up based on the input on this tab ( Pixel Clk 149.53, H active Pxl 1920, H blank2 80, H sync offset80, h sync width 60, H image size 409, H border 0, V active Lines1080, V blank54, V sync Offset4, V Sync width10 V image Size 230 V border 0 )

I have a full 1080p 16:9 display that supposedly supports the Adobe RGB.

Once more I have 2 lap tops with this problem Vaio VGN AW 190 and a AW 160J both with the 1080p screens and both with piano black and raid. Installed win7 64 on both machines having the same problem on both. It also seems to be causing serious eye strain so much so that it hurts my eyes to look at the computer for more than 5 min. wich is not a problem with my ACER also running 64 bit windows 7. except with a navidia 9100m G with current drivers and obviously a different display

Any help would be appreciated

Well, it really didn't make a difference for me in any tangible way, but I fixed it for my GTS 450 by making and using a custom resolution setting of 1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz in the Nvidia control panel for my for my NEC 2490WuXi.

Hoestly this "59 hertz" issue has been around since Windows 7 was released. It's nothing new and only shows in Windows, all other apps show 60 hertz.

Please see page one of this post and note the date ;)

Yeah, I noted the date and I am sure everyone else has too. It is a shame it has been around for this long and hasn't been corrected. But I think it doesn't have much effect.
