I will not stop to worrying about, as long as i dont get things as they were in Vista (in any version, beta or not), so if you dont have problems with this, good, but that doesnt mean thats the same for everyone. Its not only games that have refresh rate problems, but im tired of re-typing stuff 3 or 4 times, you people have to FULLY read the threads and then post some opinions, not reading the 2 last pages.

Cheers to all. ;)

Totally agree with MorbidGod I guess he said that in the thread best interest Im getting problem in 2 games, but problem is how to being sure those problem are because of the refresh rate in Call of juarez when are changes from cinematics to game sometimes gets stuck and the monitor says when the PC restarts: adjusting resolution in Dirt some graphics looks bad, but just the ones from the menu and sometimes a black line when playing. Again i have a new monitor, new video card, new games and new OS, so how to tell who is doing the job... hard to say

Exact same issue here on 2 seperate monitors:

Asus vw222s 1680 x 1050
LG W2353V 1980 x 1080

Have tried both of my systems - 1 has a 4870 and 1 has a 4890 so it doesnt look like an nvidia thing.

Running windows 7 rc1 7100 64bit

Happens on both 9.6 and 9.7 with or without monitor driver installed. Weird.

Doesnt seem to affect gameplay or videos though, luckily, just a bug thats probably fixed by now in the retail version.

Edit: havent tried 9.8 yet, didnt see above post, doh.

Agreed but it still begs the question, why does Win 7 do this 59hz vs 60hz thing when Vista doesn't. There are dozens of discussions all over the web about it and as far as I can see, no-one has a real answer for it.

The last forceware was OK then back to square one again with the latest. I think it's a combination of Win7 and Nvidia forceware issues.

On a separate forum I'm having a big discussion re: Nvidia forceware issues whereby my GTX295's GPU1 throttles back for a rest periodically (as it should) but GPU2 never does, and we've decided that's due to the forceware.

This is a bug that's guaranteed to be fixed by Microsoft (as clearly it is an OS bug). Some claim that it's only 1hz - but we're not talking about mathematical variances here, we're talking about something important for all gamers and HTPC users. An out of sync refresh rate DOES create problems and it is completely noticeable when application settings have to match system settings. The reason I know there is a bug, btw, is because when I boot up my system, and change the refresh rate from 59hz to 60hz, my monitor actually goes blank for a second which indicates to me that it's really switching refresh rates, but when the setting reverts back to 59hz, the screen doesn't "flicker" indicating that it's really reverted back to 59hz. I am using the most up to date nForce drivers (190.62). I've tried all the suggestions given on here and on other sites, but nothing at all has worked.

I hate posting twice in a row - but I have to add to this... From a technological perspective you are correct, LCD monitors do not "refresh" in the conventional sense, but proper, correlated refresh rate settings are equally important when using LCDs and CRTs! Especially for gaming and most HTPC setups, where v-sync is enabled, because at that point the gpu and the monitor have to be synced, and this is why 1hz variance does matter. I can tell you from first hand experience that this is a problem - and it needs to be fixed. :geek:

Hello

I also got that problem.

NEC 24WMGX³
NVidia GTX285
Win7 RC x64
Driver version 190.62

But it's not only the refresh rate but the resolution as well. A Vampyre Story has a fixed resolution of 1024x768. My graphics card sends the native resolution (1920x1200) to the monitor, putting the game in the middle surrounded by blackness. The monitor has quite good scaling capabilities but working with the native resolution the function isn't active.

When I set my desktop to 1024x768@75hz, exactly THAT resolution is send to the monitor and shown by it. Now I can use the monitors scaling ability.
When I set my desktop to 1024x768@59Hz, the monitor shows 1920x1200 and the desktop small in the middle of the screen.

So, the problem may have something to do with the doubled NTSC rate, already thought of something like that.

I cannot believe, that EVERY display manufacturer made the same failure in their EDID. I wonder, if the old way of calculating refresh rates will be implemented in the final version of Win7.

In that case, someone doesn't know, what I meant (becaus of crappy english, etc); here are two pictures:
This one shows, how it SHOULD look like:
Bild: sosollesaussehenwbkp.jpg - abload.de
That one over here shows, how it should NOT look like...
Bild: sosiehtesaus1ykl.jpg - abload.de

You see, the problem is not only the refresh rate but also the resolution in correlation to the refresh rate.

DHAmoKK i see that you mention something about scaling, but have you tried all the different settings? The refresh rate issue is happening to a lot people with different rigs, so it would seem that the only common denominator is the OS, but the resolution issue seems to be a bit more isolated. Have you tried installing the driver for your monitor?

Hello

@omnimodis78
Thanks for your answer and yes, I tried the "Standard PnP-Monitor" driver, the one from NEC and also the selfmade .inf-driver with the guide made by "baarod", though I didn't know, what entries are to change, because every setting in the EDID already were 60Hz.

I can set my desktop to 1024@60Hz without problems and hardware-scaling done by my monitor and it shows 59,9Hz. When I set it to 1024@59Hz, my monitor shows 59,8Hz and not 1024x768 but 1920x1200...

The following text shows, what Monitor asset Manager reads out of the .dat-file I created with Phoenix. Don't tell me, the difference we're all talking about is between "VESA" and "VESA STD", since I can set 59Hz to all other resolutions and got probems with scaling every time 59Hz is used.

Hey!

on
Win7 x64 7600.16385

Samsung 245B (Driver installed)

Switching to 60Hz causes BLUESCREEN! Anyone got the same effect with Nvidia Hardware?

I think we are all beta-testers until ServicePack1 :-/

This is certainly a bug, and I think there's a consensus overall that it's OS related. I don't think there's a workaround because, well, it's a bug... Without a doubt Microsoft is aware of it, and I'm sure it will be rectified by the time the OS hits the shelves! Keep in mind that even the RTM 'version' has surpassed the RC build (7100).

I have the final release version of Windows 7 Professional x64 and I'm also stuck at 59hz. Is it possible that this can cause tearing? I've noticed that the top 1/5 of my monitor seems to lag behind the bottom so if i drag a window horizontally it tears rather badly. I didn't notice this before installing windows 7 so could it be related to the incorrect refresh rate?

I've just plugged in my old Windows XP PC which allowed me to set it to 60hz and the tearing is gone. So yes, this problem causes tearing on my monitor. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon or some one will discover a work around.

This is certainly a bug, and I think there's a consensus overall that it's OS related.

I'm sorry to say, but the consensus may be wrong. As of cat 9.8, ATI cards aren't affected which tends to suggest that it's a driver issue, not an OS one.
