5M long VGA Cable giving low resolutions

The cable is only giving me a resolution of 1680x1050 and it is ghosting they are also only giving off a generic monitor rather then recognizing the model of the monitor. The standard VGA cables you receive when you buy work fine.

Doing research ive read that the longer the cable the lower the quality?

The graphic cards are lower end AMD cards but are new.

All drivers on graphic cards and monitors have been updated to the latest yet it hasn't had any effect.

Do some legwork here. A VGA signal booster IS what you need to correct this issue. Read reviews and specs.

ill see if my local parts shop has one. I've never built a computer with 6 screens before so i never had to deal with this problem before.

The cable length won't effect your resolution, sharpness, maybe.
If it "is giving off a generic monitor" something is wrong with your drivers, try rolling back.

i thought it may be drivers yet only when im using that cable it shows the generic monitor, and when i use the vga cable that came with the monitor it works fine.

I tried the cable on the other monitors and they would also get the generic monitor with the highest res of 1600. Yet they were fine with the standard vga cable?

would it be better to just use a long HDMI cable? i was having that 1inch black bar issue but did some reseach on how to fix the issue so i might just use the HDMI slot

It is quite possible you have a bad cable, have you tried others in the same confiuration? HDMI is sensitive to length though, but I think a 5M one would be Okay.

The fact that the Monitor is showing as "Generic" is proof that the cable and or cable length is the issue. Since the monitor is showing as "Generic", the correct resolutions will not be offered.
