64-bit slower than 32-bit..?

I ended up going back to 32-bit and im on it right now.
I did wonder about my anti-virus, ive always used Eset Smart Security 4 and I recommend it to everybody, I havent noticed it being resource hungry but then ive never really looked out for it.

Sorry to hear that, but I looked at your specs and well i think your using a laptop. If it came with vista 32-bit or 64-bit it might make a world of difference sometimes. I bought my desktop when i was a noob and figured 64-bit was so much better. (IT IS FOR ME)

Later on, after getting sick of vista 64-bit despite having 6 gb of ram i had lots of reasons. i made it 32-bit and It felt way much slower so i went back to 64-bit and it was slow and clunky but faster then 32-bit. So it might be something with manufacturers for your PC.
So all I am saying, is it maybe wasn't designed to run well considering it is a celeron chip, not to hate of course.

hmm berry interesting...I have been playing with 64bit though dont have too many apps running, mostly 32 bit apps lol, maybe I should switch back to 32bit, nahhhh.

What I have noted though is that I am running out of space on the HDD, its a 74gb 10k WD, and only 5gb left. Theres nothing I could delete other than programs, I've dumped the extra files on another drive, no clue but get a bigger drive.

I'll stay with 64bit though...

He'll notice a good difference if he adds more RAM, since 64 bit OS' support more than 4GB's where 32 bit OS's don't...

Im not too sure what to do, im not sure if my laptop supports > 4GB RAM. But I use the Adobe suite extensively, so a lot of Photoshop and Flash.
A bit or programming too although I havent seen a 64-bit compiler or anything like that..?

Photoshop CS4 should DEFINITELY run quicker as its a true 64 bit app.

Move the scratch files around if you can to a disk thats not too heavily used.

A 64 bit OS will perform better even on a 2GB RAM machine (one less level of address translation needed etc) but you won't necessarily SEE a performance improvement when running 32 bit apps -- since the app still needs 2 execute cycles (the system is still running in 64 bit mode) compared with the native 64 bit app running in 64 bit mode.

Operation of WOW - running 32 bit apps in a 64 bit OS (Windows on Windows) is a bit too complex to describe here but google for it if you are interested.

Any degradation however is likely to be fairly trivial on a decent machine.

Things like fast disks will overcome most of this stuff -- only intensive games (in 32 bit) might show a performance hit - but since gamers tend to buy fairly spruced up machines anyway the difference between the game running on a 32 / 64 bit OS won't be noticed.

Note also the GPU will play a part here -- I think none yet operate INTERNALLY at true 64 bit although the driver and interreaction with the main CPU will be 64 bit --don't know enough about the internal processing of GPU cards to verify this however).

(Running a 64 bit game should show a LOT of improvement however on a decent machine with a powerful GPU).
