7.1 Surround Sound Gaming Headset question

Okay first of all, my laptop doesn't have the sound card to provide 7.1 surround sound, it does however have Dolby Surround Sound, so I was thinking if I purchased a 7.1 surround sound headset, how can I configure each speakers on it? Since currently the only audio channel I have is Stereo.

The headset is plugged in by USB, so it must act like a sound card on its own, if I plug in the USB headset, will it provide me another audio channel for 7.1?

The headset is a Razer Megaladon.

Hello PinoyForTheWin.

Razer devices a pretty powerful when it comes to hardware performance/gaming. They are also well known for providing complex drivers for their products.
My guess is that when you'll install the headset, the driver software will provide you some advanced options to choose from.
Among those, there should be some setting to enable the 7.1 sound experience, by overriding your standard sound card settings, and applying its own.
I cannot however guarantee this as a 100% go, it's just a thought to help you decide what to do next.
