Solved 8 GB memory installed, 4 GB available

I have two different brands of RAM memory installed - 4 GB of each different kind. System reports that 8 GB are installed but only 4 GB available. I tried installing like memory in same color coded slots on main board but didn't make any difference where it's installed on the MB. How can I access the full 8 GB of RAM?

32 bit can only see 4 gigs. To use all of yours you are going to need 64 bit win7.

Thanks, zigzag - found that in another post shortly after posting. Amazing how much I can learn without ever posting - if I have the patience to read them all!

You might even want to remove 4GB and keep it as spare RAM in case any modules fail.

If you do so, make sure your remove a matching pair and keep them in an anti-static bag of some sort.
