It specifically says to save your network adapter in backup so you have it to get online.

I dont' think you've followed the tutorial at all which is a shame since you had this chance to get the one perfect install you'd never have to do again, and I was here to help you.

I think you are being a little harsh for someone who seems to be a helpful guy. I did see that it said "Just in case" you need it. I knew that I could get it from my other computer anyway, so I skipped it and got caught. It does not mean that I am ignoring your procedure completely it is definitely helping to guide me along for a guy who does this as infrequently as possible.

I have problems with tutorials in general. I must have ADD and get side-tracked very easily. Glad to see you back with a sense of humour. As far as wording in tutorials goes, things like 'just in case' vs 'you must' can make it easy to take the fastest way instead of the smartest way. Like the case for the Network adapter driver being backed up, I took the easy way which turned out to be longer way around since the driver was not in the Windows ISO. If you want to improve that section, I would recommend that you add a mini tutorial on how to backup the driver for the Network Adapter instead of saying just in case ... I know that may be newbie to the max but I managed to screw myself out of an hour of my time by not doing the backup. And being a newb on this stuff, I don't really know how to do that driver backup but I bet it is dead simple.

FYI, I am progressing and at step 9 - Recover User Files. Is there any safe place to find a Labtec Webcam driver for Win 7 64-bit? I did have it working on my previous build but don't seem to have that driver saved anywhere.

It also says to look in Device Manager to see what make/model Network adapter you're looking, then find it on the PC or adapter's Support Downloads webpage.

Again, did you enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) and run all Important and Optional Updates with the hardware plugged in and powered up?

If not delivered soon by Windows Updates under Important or Optional, then google the webcam make or model for Windows 7 driver, or trace Hardware Identification which is also specified in the tutorial.

Let me know if there is anything else I can copy for you from tutorial.

Yes, I did enable the Automatic delivery of Drivers and ran the check for updates MANY times and rebooted after each requested cycle of updates, all with the webcam connected. I was not surprised to have this device missing its driver though as it is a legacy device and no known Win 7 drivers exist for it. There was a work around for it with a vista driver, I think, that I have since lost. It may not be worth the trouble.

Use the Visa driver, in http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html if necessary.

You shouldn't need full software to use cam in various apps like messengers or Skype.

Thanks for that compatibility info, Greg. That would help me if I actually had the Vista driver. I'm not sure where I can find that animal now since it looks like the labtec domain is now up for sale. Do you know of any safe archives for such things?

Google has everything. You only need to ask correctly. Device model + windows 7 driver. Wade through all the driver finder disguised ads for a real download. You'd already know this if you were following the tutorial competently.

If you need someone to find it for you then post back exact make and model.

I guess I must not know the secret handshake required for Google to anti up the required driver. All I am finding are a bunch of driver finder solutions in every language of this earth.
Win 7 driver does not exist for this device but there should be one from vista that I can use in compat mode. The device is Labtec Webcam V-UAQ13. If anyone has one lying around or knows how to find it without too much trouble, I will appreciate it.

After all the time you and others have in fixing your system I have a idea.
Don't screw things up now.

Throw the webcam away and buy another one that will work with windows 7. Or another option would be don't use a webcam.

A new webcam is only about $10.00 to $20.00.
