Hi Guys,

I have a problem with my graphic card (8400M GS), yesterday some parts of
my screen turns greens a some minutes after, I had the famous BSOD with
nvlddmkm.sys error.

I restart my system but I can't see nothing, when the logon screen must be
showed I just see a lots of barcolors :sarc:

When I got the error, I had the 8766 driver of nVIDIA, I try to install 9176
version ( in failsafe mode all works fine), but the problem persist.

I also try to change the register key of TDR, without results.

Any ideas?

Thanks, FrunK.

This nvlddmkm.sys BSOD is mostly related to overheating and bad memory

Common issues that can cause a TDR:
- Bad memory
- Insufficient/problematic PSU
- Corrupt driver install
- Overheating
- Unstable overclocks (GPU or CPU)
- Incorrect MB voltages (generally NB/SB)
- Faulty graphics card

Things to check first:

- Run memtest (memtest.org). This should complete with NO errors.
- Check your PSU ratings. Is it providing enough power, and most importantly enough Amps on the 12V rail.
- Check temperatures. Its important you check these at load, which is generally when a TDR event will occur. Cleaning your system of dust can help temperatures significantly. Common sense will normally tell you if something is too hot, but if you aren't sure, the information is generally available online.
- Test with stock clocks. This includes memory, CPU and GPU (even factory OC'd cards). Best to try each separately so you can be sure if one solves the issue.
- Try graphics card/cards in another computer if you can.

Yeah my best guess is that you GPU (Well GPU or video memory) is overheating or more likely was running hot for a long time and has actually burned out now :(

Can you try the card in another computer to quickly see if it's the card or not?

Thank you for the answers guys,

I try to put the drivers from laptoview2go (for my version, is mobile) and still not working.

I cant try in other computer because this is Pavillion dv9738 laptop.

I never overclock my card, I test the memory with the bios utility and the memory passed it.

Is difficult for me understand that could be a hardware issue, because with VGA standar drivers works fine :S

Thanks.

you need to install the 197.16 whql drivers from NVidias site to ensure you have the latest drivers. http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_winvista_win7_197.16_whql.html (those are the 32 bit drivers you dont specify your os type anywhere)

nvlddmkm.sys is a software issue not hardware which leads me to beleive the bluescreen is erroneous and not to be trusted because you have a hardware issue , its you GPU at fault not your drivers

BUT to eliminate drivers completely you NEED to run a driver cleaner such as driver sweeper in safemode after uninstaling your old drivers , or the nvlddmkm.sys file will not ne replaced during the installation of your new drivers.

Get furmark and run a stability test. If it craps out you definitely know its faulty. I could also just be a dead or dying controller. Use a different port.

so now you have eliminated the software (drivers) wee looking at a hardware issue as we suspected :( or a screen issue , as its a laptop i cant really help from here it seems you may need a replacement motherboard (onboard gpu)
