Solved A Minor Mystery

Hi Folks,
When I switch ON my computer, I give it ample time to fully load before doing anything.
On my laptop, if I open FF13, home page iGoogle, I can type in the 'Search' box.
On my Desktop pc, same settings, I have to click the 'Search' box before I can type text in it.

Not sure if this will help or not but you might check control panel > mouse > pointer options tab. There might be a setting to have the pointer automatically move to the default location in a dialog box. On the start menu that would be the search box.

Tried ticking box on my desktop, rebooted, No change.

Do you have something different running on the Desktop that is preventing FF from getting focus when you open it?
Perhaps something running in the tray...

You could try booting in Safe Mode and see if it works that way.

Forgot to say, there is no tick in the box on my laptop.
I don't have any program set to run at start up on either pc, David.

Not sure if any of this would help, but some things I would try:

Test with a different Home Page such as Bing.
Test another browser such as IE.

Open a new tab in FF and go to "about:config"
search for "focus" and compare your laptop and desktop settings.

My PC sets focus to the search field and works like your laptop.

I tried IE9 on both computers with different search providers & home page. Both worked perfectly.
Have not tried FF13 yet.

Not sure if you tried a different FF Home page and that made a difference...

If that doesn't help, I would try:

Disable Add-Ons to make sure they are not the issue.
Create a new FF Profile to make sure the current profile is not the problem.
Un-install / Re-install FF.

Hi David,
I set FF to default homepage, cleared the 'Cache' restarted FF. Reset to my homepage, closed & restarted. Problem solved.
