Solved A Plague of Internet Explorer Download Offers

Help!

I had to have new HD installed recently, and I downloaded Internet Explorer. I have also tried Google Chrome and used the pair in tandem. I am an author and need to visit the internet at least fifty times a day searching for information ( like the ranks in Spain's Guardia Civil!). Since I have reinstalled my stuff, when I go to my first website it seems okay. Then when I try to move on to another site a big green arrow appears on screen saying CONTINUE, then a box comes up saying you are currently browsing the web with Internet Explorer and your Video Player may be outdated. Please update to the latest version for a better performance. Beneath that is a legal info box. Then up will pop a smaller box saying RECCOMENDED, petering me to download. Then there's An Internet download manager Box that comes up. They are so hectoring I cannot believe they come from Internet Express. I have regularly ticked the boxes for erasing browsing history and the other things under safety, but all to no avail. I have also looked carefully through my control panel list for malware or stuff that should not be there and can't seem to find anything. Any ideas please. It is driving me potty!

Hi,
I'm not sure where you downloaded Internet explorer or which version your presently using ?
But it's available via the windows update system hopefully this is where you downloaded from ?
Checking for windows updates is my first recommendation there was a new release just last Wednesday or 3/11 it was released no telling exactly when you might of received it but it would be ie11, or showing KB#2925418 Gear symbol/ About ie,

Adobe Flash player is up to 12.0.077 so you might check that in your control panel,

Clearing ie's cache,
Open ie,
Use Ctrl+Shift+Delete or Gear symbol/ Safety/ Delete browser history,
Uncheck the top box and the next four boxes should already be Checked/ Click Delete.

You can post a link to one of the sites where these popups are happening so we might test,

Hi Again Thrashie


I checked and I have got ie 11. I could not check Adobe Flash Player as the control panel say I do not have one! I do have an Adobe Reader X. I did the deleting stuff but have been doing that before and it has not cured the prob. How do I send you a link next time it happens?

Hi Click the Start button rb: and on the list you'll see Control panel listed,
On the top right change the page view to Small icons,
Click it to open and go to the Advanced listing across the top to versify the version and even check for updates,

You can copy the address by clicking on the url the (http://.......) it will turn Blue then right click it and Click on Copy open a new reply here and right click anywhere on the reply page and click on paste,

As John McKenroe would say, I just don't believe it!
I went into PC World and the tech guy's hands flew over the keys and he said that something had got in and changed my settings to allow the spam/virus/unwanted stuff to take over when I went to a second site in sequence. He said it would be fine. I got back home just now and switched on...and the bloody thing is back!

One of the pesky little red boxes popped up and I saw it had filesbunker.com at the bottom. I googled it and there was an article about getting rid of it. It said it is a virus which slips in on the back of innocent downloads.

I don't know how to do any of this stuff, Thrash even with the instructions. I am a writer of 70 and completely dumb with computers. I did uninstall a suspicious looking prog from my control panel but am sure that will not be enough

The cheeky bloody internet download malware even tried to do its stuff while I was downloading your fix! You fix whizzed through and then found something called something bull(?) and did its stuff and gave me a report of actions. So far no repetition. Your are a star mate. How can I reward you?

Post the scan results would be a good start Mate
Open the text file created by Adwcleaner,
Right click the body of it and click on Select All,
Right click again and click on Copy,
Open a new message here type here ya go,
Right click under that and click on Paste.

After the scan the scanner should of said you need to boot to clean your computer,
After logging back in a text file should of opened,
Which it should be on your desktop,

Exactly as you said, the text box opened and gave a list of stuff found and done, but I cannot find any ref to it on my desktop. Under As I just have a dozen Acer things and then two Adobe things. There is no reference at all to adwcleaner. Have I lost it?
