I play online poker and in one of my programs, when i click on profile and then my account to check my account stuff, it opens up with internet explorer. The problem with this is it doesn't even load. It just freezes every single time. Is there a way to have the box open up in chrome?

The thing is all my internet tabs and searching are in chrome. I do not like internet explorer not firefox. I actually think i deleted internet explorer off my computer because when i go to remove program files... i don't see internet explorer there. Does that mean it has been removed?

However, when i go to windows icon on the bottom left and then type internet explorer, i see it. It always have the message at the bottom would you like IE as your default browser. However... the page never ever loads. For example i click on it and it goes to msn.com but i never seen msn.com. The page basically freezes.

You might be able to create a desktop shortcut to open the online poker website. See the last post in this forum thread:

windows - Specific browser for specific links - Super User

If the online poker site now opens in Internet Explorer it doesn't seem likely that IE has been removed. You could check to see if IE was turned off rather than removed.

Check Chrome and see if it is set as your default browser.
I don't use Chrome but their should be a setting in Chrome that will give you a choice.

I think I may have misunderstood your question. If you're trying to open any and all websites with Chrome, Layback Bear's suggestion to make Chrome your default browser is a good one.

(Thank you, Jack for that suggestion. :))

This Chrome tutorial shows how to make Chrome the default browser.

We do not know how the link in that program is constructed. The link may pass a website to the Operating System and the Operating System opens the website using the default browser. Internet Explorer is the default browser unless you or a program changes that.

It is possible for the program to force Internet Explorer to open the website and that is what marsmimar was telling you how to get around.

I think this statement is telling us that Internet Explorer is not your default browser:
...then type internet explorer, i see it. It always have the message at the bottom would you like IE as your default browser.
So I think that marsmimar's first suggestion is going to be your best hope for getting what you want. But there very well could be a setting inside the program that tells the program to use Internet Explorer for all links. Can you tell us the name of the program that you are using?

I'll let Layback Bear and marsmimar continue to help you to get that profile link to open using Chrome. I'm mainly sticking my nose into your thread to answer this question:
....I actually think i deleted internet explorer off my computer because when i go to remove program files... i don't see internet explorer there. Does that mean it has been removed?...
No, all of Internet Explorer is still on your computer. We can help you sort of remove it, but let's not do that until you get your profile link working in Chrome as desired. I personally would update and keep Internet Explorer as a backup browser in case Chrome gets messed up. Then you can use Internet Explorer to research/fix Chrome.

......it [Internet Explorer] goes to msn.com but i never seen msn.com. The page basically freezes.
This should not happen and it should be fixed - even if you never use Internet Explorer again. Having Internet Explorer freeze on MSN website is a sign of bigger problems. But we can work on this issue (if you want) after you get Chrome to open your profile link.

I would not remove I.E. Windows updates and anything else you get from Microsoft prefers I.E. in my opinion.

Sorry for jumping in here late in the game, but here is my tale of woe for something similar.

I had a program that would always open up in Opera, and Firefox was my default browser.
Annoying and odd to me, but no big deal as it worked without errors.
So one day I decided to try and find out why this program worked like this, using Opera.
I could not find any setting anywhere to change this behavior in Windows/Program options or settings.

I then ran regedit (Registry Editor) and started looking in there to see if I could find something.
Well, I did find a Registry key for the program that was "hardcoded" with "Opera"!
I thought "That's the problem" !

I exited regedit, re-booted, and created a System Backup Image.
Then I manually changed the registry key from Opera to Firefox, and my problem was solved.
The program opened a new tab in Firefox - my personal preference.

I don't like to suggest using regedit here in SF, but that's how I solved a similar issue.
I had the luxury of doing this on my TEST box, so no big deal if I screw up, and the system can't boot or work correctly.
I keep many backup images, so I knew I could restore if I needed to...

I would never do a manual registry edit change without a backup/restore plan.
Over the years I've bricked enough of my own systems out of curiosity, so I learned this lesson the hard way...
Just trying to warn you before you attempt/make a change in regedit and have bigger problems...

Nice investigative work, David. And your warning to always have a backup/system image is sage advice.
