a question about a USB portable storage drive

I have a 2gb USB flash drive that I was thing of putting all my forum, web pages and so on passwords on the flash drive. but still keep the hard copy in the safe. How would I protect the info on the flash drive in case the flash drive is lost or stolen. I am assuming there are encryption programs that let me get into the flash drive, but no one else. And do these encryption programs have a backup setup in case if I forget the password? Which programs will work for this job?

My advice: Don't encrypt your Windows disk. Have seen many people at this forum that looses everything.

I am not thinking of encrypting the Windows install cd. If I do it at all. It is for a way to carry my password notebook were I have all my passwords "like the password for here". There is so many places that I login to that I can't remember all the passwords. So I write them in a small notebook. But I don't like carrying the notebook it self (it is the only copy that I have right now) when on lets say a vacation and I have my tablet with me. If I have them on a USB flash drive that I can carry with me. But I worry if the flash drive is not encrypted and I lose the flash drive. Then someone has all my passwords. But if the flash drive is encrypted if someone finds the flash drive. They can't read it. Do you understand were I am going with this now?

I did understand what you want from the fist post. I just advised you to not encrypt the Windows disk.
You can also use WinRar with a password, although I don't know if it's a strong protection.

Keepass is what I use - just upload the password file to something like Dropbox and point the Keepass program at it. Also use it on both of my Android devices (Keepass2Android IIRC) and do the same. All the devices access and write to the same centrally located file that contains all the URL's, relevant passwords and notes for various websites. There is the "risk" of having all this injformation in the one area in the cloud but probably less risky than a notepad or a USB Key if you put a decent password on it.

For just keeping passwords, 2GB, if anything, is overkill.

Exactly!! I have a 128 meg sandisk cruzer I use a lot, mainly with documents. Been using it a long time.

(just checked, 45 meg ± used, 77 meg free ±)

1st off the 2gb is the smallest one that I have. I have bigger ones also. If I do it. The only thing that will be on the 2 gb USB flash drive is just the name of the forum or web page and the password and that's it. I am just worried that if the flash drive is not encrypted and it gets lost or stolen then I am up a creek without a paddle. That is my big worry is that someone gets hold of it and does all kinds of nasty things. For the same reasons I haven't used things like cloud data storage and the free data storage that comes with my Gmail account. I do a lot of backup on CD's and DVD's.
