A question about the search engine "Chrome" when migrate from Win 7

Hello,
I have Win 7 Ultimate and eligible for the Win 10 upgrade.
I read about the Win 10 with updated IE or equivalent.

Would I be able to change search engine to chrome or get myself ready to use the new features in Win10 and accept its built in facilities for IE search?

Thank you for your patience as my question may be less meaningful to those with so much advanced knowledge in computer related matters.

No need to worry

IE, and it's Windows 10 replacement Edge, are actually browsers that use Bing as a search engine, whereas Chrome is a browser that uses Google search - I'm certain that Chrome will be available for Windows 10 on launch if it's not working now, which I doubt.

Theare may be more issues with the search bilt into the Operating system which uses Bing by default. It may be that an option will be added to allow other search engines to be used

You are not locked to Bing with Edge -

settings > open with > specific page > Google
advanced settings > search in the addresss bar with > Google

in the final 240, as well as Edge, IE11 is there in program files and can be pinned to taskbar etc. As before, IE can be set to anything - Duck Duck Go, StartPage, Ixquick etc - as can Edge

Also Google Chrome browser installs + runs OK in 10240.

If I was MS, I sack the branding guy who came up with 'Bing', 'Edge' - even 'Windows 10' is a bit 'meh' . . .

Hi,
Built in search well if your referring to Winkey+S or cortana search for local files and web search that has yet to be seen if it can be altered to a different web search engine
Somehow I doubt it will be easily changed besides turning off bing or web search via group policy "if" one has the Pro version of 10

Browser related wise yea it's just a seach preference if using it in a browser window.

@ ThrashZone - in W10, even though I changed search providers in Edge and IE, 'search the web and windows' still opens up in Edge/bing. Search settings ie Google for Edge and IE11 opened from the taskbar seem to have stuck however. Also 'whats this' kind of stuff (eg defer updates - learn more) also opens in Edge/bing.

I haven't seen any different search engine sticking from the cortana or as you describe taskbar search
10146 build is the only one group policy actually worked to block web search from it which was all I was wanting

Chrome should remain intact with your Favorites, History and other saved data after the Upgrade to Windows 10.

But to be sure and to secure this so-called metadata if you value it, sign into the Google Chrome browser and all other Google sites while using them so that your data is collected and saved across all Google platforms on the web and not in the OS. Then you only need to be sure you're signed in for the browser et al to have your meta data loaded.

This is not to say that this is optimal because Google spies relentlessly to build an ad profile of you to apply ads everywhere you go. This can be somewhat mitigated by regularly using Opt Out of Network Advertising to which Google supposedly subscribes.

But if you find the ads become creepy (advertising what you discussed you want for lunch in an email) and burdensome the way to turn them off is uninstall all Google programs and stay signed out of Google sites, something that is becoming harder to do in today's world if you don't live with Apple or are waiting for MS to catch up.
