Hi Guys,

I have had this laptop for about 12 months and have had no problems. I have been reading and writing to drive C, D, E and F into user created folders as well as to the root of each drive. I am the owner/administrator of the machine with all permissions.

Yesterday I went to create another batch file and save it to drive C, and suddenly I no longer have the privilege.

I have done a complete restore from my weekly full system backup but this did not resolve the problem.

Any Ideas?:banghead:

Hi Cornwall, Welcome to Sevenforums.

First thing that needs to be done by you is to run antivirus (whichever you are using), Malwarebytes. You can download Malware bytes from here Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download

Run both of them and then do a reboot. If this solves your issue then good. Else, we have to check something else.

As you mentioned that you did system restore. Do restore boot options.

1. Go to Boot options (F8, F12).
2. Select Repair from the menu.
3. Select an admin account, then enter its password.
4. Select System Restore when prompted.
5. Set Windows back to a point before you locked yourself out.
6. Reboot and check if you are able to write now.

Cheers!

Hi Archer,

Thanks for your reply. I have downloaded and run the malware program as suggested, this made no difference.

I rebooted and pressed the F8 key then Repair etc, again this has made no difference.

As I mentioned before, I did do a restore from my weekly backup that is stored on an external drive. The strange thing is that EVERYTHING was working fine when I did the backup and for several days after, so, I would have thought restoring back to that copy, things would be ok again.

Unless you can think of anything else, my next option is to press the little "onekey" button on my laptop, this [FONT=&quot]apparently restores the machine back to factory defaults.

Cheers.

Hi Guys,

First Archer, I followed the link you kindly sent and also followed the instructions in the link, but, same problem, still can not write to the root.

Gary, the backup that I restored from was created using the OneKey Recovery program that shipped with the Lenovo laptop I have.

Hi Guys,

The latest is, I pressed the little button and therefore have restored back to factory settings.

I still have the same problem, I done all of the above mentioned ideas after the restore but the problem still remains.

I started to get doubts as to whether I had written to my drive C, so I looked at the copy I have and there are a number of files on the root that I have saved there.

The security settings on drive C under "Group or User Names" give FULL access to all on the list.

What have I missed?:banghead:

From post #6
Gary, the backup that I restored from was created using the OneKey Recovery program that shipped with the Lenovo laptop I have.

After you did this did you check or change any user accounts?
Have you check to see if the permission for all drives is as you want them.

Here is another option. Take a good read through this Tutorial.

Thanks for more info LayBack Bear.

I followed option 2 as I have the Premium version of Win7. This created a new account named Administrator and works perfectly....thank you.

Is there any way to transfer my existing account (programs, desktop, files etc) across to the new account then delete my original account? :sarc: Then I could rename my new account to the name of my old account and everything would be as it was a month ago.

Hi LayBack Bear

I followed the link you gave me and read right through it. I don't think this is what I was looking for, so I have now changed the admin account to suit with all the relevant shortcuts etc.

I would like to thank you and everyone else for their help and suggestions it has been invaluable.

As things stand at the moment, I have 2 accounts, both have all the same permissions but only 1 is named Administrator and acts like an administer, the other account is as it was with all the problems we have been talking about.

As I can now do what I need to do with this account, I will mark it as solved.
