Ok since the deadline to reserve is coming up, I'm trying to get my Win 10 copy reserved so I don't have to pay for it when I'm eventually forced into upgrading. Let me reiterate that I'm only trying to reserve, not install Win 10.
A few months ago, the Win 10 compatibility tool told me my system was fine and that I could download Win 10 now and install later, so elected to do that. It seemingly downloaded and I see the files in c:\$WINDOWS.~BT.
Now however, the upgrade tool started saying that my PC cannot run Win 10, yet the compatibility report only shows a problem with software Corsair Link which I have since uninstalled.
I could not get a new report to be re-generated after uninstalling Corsair Link, even though however this shouldn't be making my PC unable to run Win 10 since all my devices are compatible. A new report will simply not generate. I've tried manually re-running the compatibility appraiser to no end. I've tried deleting the c:\windows\Appcompat directory where all the compatibility appraiser files are stored. After doing so the directory is recreated but report files are still not generated. I've even gone as far as hacking a JSON file in the Appcompat dir to try to get it to recognize that my PC is fine for the upgrade, and while I got it to show the proper report, the initial screen in the upgrade tool will still display 'This PC is unable to run Windows 10'.
Now of course Windows Update itself has no problem with my PC as far as the upgrade is concerned, however it just wants to force me to upgrade now.
I've about had it with the upgrade tool, is there any way I can check to see that my Win 10 is actually reserved? I did set the date on my PC to July 30th and the upgrade tool said that the reservation period was over.
Please, if anybody has suggestions on how I can verify that a copy is reserved I would be quite grateful.
