What's shakin people,

I recently upgraded to 7 about a month ago. Things were going great until every time I opened any sort of video file, be it AVI, WMA, including streaming video from youtube, xbox.com, anything, the program being used (Firefox, WMP, WinAmp) would either hang or crash. The most frequent error response was "AppCrashB1," or something along the lines of that. I made sure to update my nvidia drivers, update firefox, run compatibility checks, and new codecs. Nothing works. Whenever I restart/turn on my computer, videos will work several times, and fairly well. However, after about 15-30 minutes, the same jazz starts happening. I have absolutely no idea where to go from here. Thanks.

Hi.

Install Shark's Codec pack and update your Adobe Flash.

From an elevated command prompt, run:

sfc /scannow

I tried to run sfc /scannow and it said I need to be an administrator running a console session to access sfc, and to be honest, I'm green at this...

That's why I said, "elevated."

Elevated means to run it as administrator. You can right click on the shortcut then choose run as admin.

Start menu | all programs | accessories | right click Command Prompt

Thanks for you help, but unfortunately, the situation is staying the same. The scan found nothing and the codecs installed fine.

If you've ever had any bsod, they will be inside C:\Windows\Minidump

Rar or zip them, then attach to a post. This could help figure things out.

Also, very helpful: Type system information in the start menu search box. Hit enter. On the screen that pops up, use ctrl+s. Rar or zip the saved file and also attach that to a post.

The Minidump was empty, as expected. Here is the system information. When on the System Drivers tab, I noticed some "Critical" ones under the Error Control section. I don't know if they are specifically relevant or not. Thanks alot for your help.

Alright. Follow this and hopefully it will be fixed.

Type regedit in the start menu search box.

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and delete:

SynTPEnh
Zune Launcher
SmartMenu
SysTrayApp

Then go to start menu | all programs | startup

Inside there, delete:

Google Update

Back to start menu search box, type services.msc then hit enter. Disable:

Cyberlink RichVideo Service
Viewpoint Manager Service (You could also delete the entire folder for this in program files.)
Yahoo! Updater

Go to device manager and right click on sptd. Disable it.

When done, reboot computer and test. Let me know how it goes.

Well, I did everything you said last night and so far, it's all running smoothly. The only draw back was my touch pad stopped being able to scroll, but all I did was reinstall the Synaptics driver. It looks like this was definitely the correct answer. Thanks alot for all your help. Without it, I may have thrown my laptop at a wall.

bad news on my end. It seemed to work fine for a couple hours. I put the computer to sleep, went out, came back a couple hours later and it seemed to revert back to what it was originally doing...

alright, so I had a dumbass moment. Instead of originally disabling the three items in "services," i simply stopped them. I also didn't see the part about disabling the sptd file, so I did. I'll continue testing it and see where it goes...

Alright, so I had a dumbass moment. Instead of "disabling" the services, I simply "stopped" them, thinking it was the same until I saw the option under properties, so I did that. Also, apparently I didn't catch the part about disabling sptd, and did that as well. I'll continue testing it out and seeing where it goes from here. Thanks

Two potential fixes for that are to update the bios and to update the chipset drivers, if any are available.

Visit the motherboard manufacturer's website. Use CPU-Z mainboard tab if you don't know which you have.

You could also check HP's site, but motherboard site will probably be the better option here.

Here's a bios update (but there are submodels - make sure this is correct for yours)

and like I said, check the motherboard website (or Intel's site) for chipset drivers.
