Hi,

I recently started seeing a problem on one of my laptops where all USB storage devices would mount but when I try to access them through explorer I get a warning saying the location is not accessible and access is denied.

The system can see the usb device, derive the name and file system type of the volume be it a pendrive or a kindle but I cannot access the files.

All of these devices work without issue on my other Windows 7 laptop.

I get this regardless of being logged in with a user has administrative permissions or standard user permissions.

The laptop is a DELL Latitude XT2 running Windows 7 Ultimate fully patched.

Any help much appreciated.

Hi,

Install the latest chipset driver from: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriversHome/NeedProductSelection?fkey=Drivers_PS

If the issue still persists, then try following the below mentioned steps:

1. Right click the drive.
2. Select Properties.
3. Press the Sharing Tab.
4. Select Advanced Sharing.
5. Put a check on "share this folder".
6. Press Permissions now that it is clickable because you put a check on share this folder box.
7. Under "Group or Usernames" there should be a default option of everyone. If it does not show this for you, press add and type Everyone.
8. Check all 3 boxes under Allow [full control, change read].

Hope this helps.
