Access Denied to Desktop Files

When I try to copy, move or delete files on the desktop while using File Manager to access the desktop folder, I am denied access and need permission. If I simply drop files directly on the desktop, it works. I can move, delete and copy files if done directly to or from the desktop. It is when I access the desktop through File Manager that I denied access. I have made sure that the desktop and any folders on it have all read/writer permissions in the security manager. I can't disable administrative restrictions since that feature does not appear in the list of Administrative Tools. The file "secpol" does not appear to be on my system, either.

Any help will be appreciated to sort this out.

Windows 7, 64 bit

Thank you,
Paul

Hi Samuria,

Thank you for responding to my post. First, all is well now. I think I found the source of the issue. To answer your question, this is my desktop on my personal computer.

The problem seems to be related to how I get to the desktop to perform file actions, i.e. copy, paste, etc. The PC I am sitting at and working on is "PAUL-SIM" from the list below, i.e. I am not accessing PAUL-SIM from a different computer on the network. However, if I want to copy a file or folder to the desktop, and if I access the desktop by first clicking on PAUL-SIM from the network list, I am then restricted from placing the file or folder on the desktop. If I use any other approach to get to the desktop, I am not restricted. I'm sure I have used this path before as it's just a quick way to get to the desktop. Maybe a recent Windows update changed security with regard to using the network links. Maybe Windows "thinks" I'm accessing PAUL-SIM over a network, even though I'm not, and then restricts access.

In any case, now that I know the problem, I simply won't use the method to access the desktop.

Thanks again,
Paul
