Solved Access is Denied (0x80070005)

Hello anyone,

"Create a restore point " results with "The restore point could not created , Access is Denied (0x80070005).

How is it possible that a system could be maintained under this circumstances ?


It's too easy to advice a clean install, disregarding so much time have been spent to the system and other installed programs.

I would appreciate any help you could provide to overcome this annoyance..

Have a look in System Properties and check that:

1. System restore is enabled.
2. Whether you need to increase the hard drive space allocated to system restore.

Are you using norton AV or zone alarm?
Try disabling your security and see if that will help.

Check whether the System Volume Information attributes is set to Read only. If it is, uncheck it. Right click on SVI >Properties. While in the Properties tab, check the Security settings and that System has been given Full control.

For this you have to unhide all hidden folders and protected Operating system files in Folder Options > View.

When done do not forget to hide them again.

I did try to disable and then enable system restore but it didn't help, and I have UAC disabled. Didn't worked.

The other thing is that ,
when I Organize the Folder Options to Show hidden files and folders, the System Volume Information folder don't show up so that I can check its attibutes. What ever I done it did not show up.
Using Command window, I tried to change the attributes, "access denied" again.
Trying to delete it with all the power of admin account. No way..



By the way I got too much free space in the drive.. and reserved for this purpose.

This ssd drive has been prepared by disc cloning because of the orijinal HD was dying (lost already)..

any help ?

Problem solved.

For any one interested;

SSD HD is mounted on another system.

The lock on "system volume information" folder is removed by the help of a 3rd party software. The lock is put by Windows' own repair procedures and could not be removed by windows. ( don't know why and how ?)

HD is put back on to the system. Then "system protection" is turned off and then turned on.

That's it.

I have the same problem .

Problem solved.

I have the same problem with my OCZ120GB SSD, can you tell me more about the 3rd party software?
The other problem I have with the OCZ120 GB SSD is - system restore using Norton Ghost15. When the restore process reaches 99% an error message appears.
" Cannot copy data from the recovery point to the destination. -At end of something." Not something you want to see if your system has crashed and your trying to restore it. Any idea what is causing this problem ?

hey, luckily i subscribed to this post and got the email regarding this reply.
after about a month i realized the problem was my HDD and the fact that it was dying so i bought a new one and all problems were gone.
my HDD wasnt an SSD so im not sure if the tools will woork on SSD or not but i know that there are specific tools for testing SSD drives.
the tool that mde me realize the lifespan of my HDD is near end was "IntelBurnTest" and also S.M.A.R.T status.
