Accessing Computername\C$ from windows 7 Home

Hello,

I have been running into this problem recently where i cannot access another computers hard drive from windows 7, knowing the username and password. I have tried using "Computername\Username" as the user name, along with "Username@computername" to no avail. What is really confusing me, making me wonder if this will work at all, is the fact that windows 7's username prompt specifies a domain. Considering none of my computers are, or have the ability to be, on a domain, this is an odd question to ask. Does anyone have a way around this that doesn't require changing settings on the computer that i need to access?

Assuming the accounts are local accounts, have you seen this KB article?

Tried and Failed

I tried the solution they had, the one not including shares, and it did not work. It told me to edit the registry with a value, which i did to their specifications. I do not have identical accounts on both computers, but from xp this never seemed to be a problem. Only with 7.

On a side note, i am not too fond of windows 7. It is just not IT friendly. easier for the user, but not the one trying to help fix it and make it work.

Well, I would disagree with IT friendly, but yes, it is a learning curve. As to the shares, assuming you have the same account on both machines with the same password, and that registry change, it should work. You can try, when prompted for a password, use .\<username> to denote that the account being passed is local to the remote machine.
