Solved Accessing Home Internet with New Device

I've just bought a Galaxy s5 player. When I tried to access the internet it came up with my network and asked for the password which I entered, but access was denied. Can anyone advise on how I can sort the problem out?

Do you have another wireless device that can access the wifi perfectly? This is a good test to make sure you are indeed getting the right password in. Just yesterday a simple misspelling caused me to spend an extra 5 minutes on attempting to log into a computer.

What is the exact message that you get with the error?

If other devices cannot connect to your wifi with your known password, or you do not have another device:
Do you have the password to log into your router? If you do, you can change the wifi password. If you need help with doing this, please let me know the make of your router (the company).

No I don't have another device. I had a desktop pc, then bought a laptop which I use now and I think that just found the network and logged on automatically.
I have tried the password with my device and the long access key number but my network comes up as disabled with the padlock icon over it.
I have a Netgear router, and am just going to sort out my original paperwork to re-check the password etc, but any further advice would be welcome.

If your laptop logs on automatically wirelessly, then at one time you would have had to have entered the wifi password. If you can connect wirelessly using your laptop, then the wifi is broadcasting and not disabled.

With your Samsung, the lock would mean that the network is secure. It could be that you are not remembering the exact password as to why are are not able to log on using the device. It should tell you wrong password, however. What did you say the exact error message was?

If you can find either your wifi password or your router password, either would help get you on your way to solving your problem. If you've never set up a router password, it could be that your router has a generic password or none at all. If you tell me the make of your router, I could help you find out what such a password would be.

You would be able to reset your router if you didn't remember your router password, which would eventually allow you to log in. This is a longer work-around, however, because you will need to call your ISP to get the code to your modem.

Is there a setting on your device that you could be overlooking that is preventing you from connecting to the router, or does this have to deal specifically with a forgotten wifi password?

I have managed to solve the problem! Very embarrassing really. I managed to access my router details and the password that I should have typed in was correct - except that I had added an 's' on the end of it.
