so my daughter bought a acer aspire 3 laptop, model number N19C1 but doesnt get on with 10 so asked if i could put 7 on it
i have 3 genuine 7 discs but this laptop doesnt have a dvd drive.
i made a bootable usb with rufus but it wont boot from usb

googled for help and found i need to change from uefi to legacy

in bios it wont let me change to legacy and google search shows acer may have removed the option for some reason

so i found a thread that says create usb in rufus but change to gpt.

still no good, so ive tried creating a usb with my windows 10 dvd
still wont boot the usb.

ive even tried booting a linus usb with no joy
at a loss guys

any help appreciated

Hi

Interesting,

according to the specs i could find its got a 10th gen intel CPU**.

Makes it awkward to install W7, YOUR media will NOT have certain required drivers, they will need to be slipstream installed.
You have a choice - see the 2 pinned items at the top of this sub forum

Now as for it not recognising the USB, its another Bios change
Boot order - USB first not the hdd
you MUSTalso put it in one of the USB2 ports

UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with

That pdf SIW2 found also says...
Model Name:N19C1
Model Number:A515-43

So we know in2media's model name, but not its model number. That should be on a label underneath. I've also seen A315-54 used with that model name, there may be others too.

I can't really help on the slipstreaming front with USB drivers and what not, but on the Rufus front, this article may have information you may have overlooked on your Google searching. So have a look here and see if you've missed a step with Rufus. Creating Windows UEFI Boot-Stick in Windows - Thomas-Krenn-Wiki

Below the Rufus information is what looks like another way to prep a USB stick for Windows installation. So if Rufus and slipstreaming the drivers still won't work, then have a look at those instructions.

If all of this sounds like a major headache full of crap, which quite frankly it is. Then consider heading on over to eBay or Amazon and buy a DVD USB optical drive. I own one for this exact reason. Sometimes I can't get a USB stick to work for all kinds of reasons. Be it chipset crap or software crap. So a good ol' fashion USB optical drive is the way to go. Due note that you probably still have to slipstream drivers into your Win 7 installation media in order to install the OS via USB with an external optical drive. Also note it has to be DVD since the OS disk is DVD.

Now another method may or may not work, and this is my half a$$ idea. I'm only posting it in case all avenues were pursued and you meet a road block. There is a Windows snap in or what ever you call it called sysprep. With it you can transfer one OS installation from one computer to another. I did exactly this when I bought my new desktop. In my old desktop, and prior to shutting it down for the last time I ran sysprep. Right after I ran sysprep I shut down the old desktop and never turned it on again. I pulled the hard drive out and installed it into the new computer. I fired up my new computer and I had a working Windows 7 with all my installed programs and data like nothing ever changed. No BSODs or anything.

So with that you could take the hard drive out of the Acer laptop, install it into another computer, be it a desktop or laptop and install Windows in that computer with the Acer hard drive. Then run sysprep, power off the computer, pull the hard drive and promptly install it back into the Acer and power on the Acer. This may or may not work.

In my case I never slipped streamed anything and found out I had no USB functionality on my new desktop. So for me to combat that I pulled out my trusty PS/2 mouse and plugged it into the desktop and first installed the networking drivers that I burned with another computer to CD/RW. Then I grabbed the USB and chipset drivers from Gigabyte's website and installed those. I'm really glad my motherboard had at least one PS/2 connector otherwise I'd have to mess with slipstreaming drivers into my installation media. Some motherboards have two PS/2 connectors so you would have the luxury of a keyboard and mouse. Since in my case it was all point and click to install drivers I just needed my mouse. No PS/2 keyboard needed.

Win 7 can be installed as Legacy-MBR or UEFI-GPT. That is not the bigger issue.

New hardware requires some drivers not found on Win 7 installation disk like SATA, USB3.x, MVMe. You have to add them to the installation disk.
Some hardware doesn't even have drivers for it, that is why we need to know ALL the hardware specs of the Acer n19c1.

To install Win 7, first you have to set BIOS properly.
- Disable Fast Boot and Secure Boot.
- Set OS to "Other"
- Does it has a CSM?
