OK, so I've been at this for about 5 hours now, and I really am all out of options. Well, in terms of searching for solutions myself, so now I have to start a thread of my own in hopes that someone will be able to help me with my specific problem.

So here we go.
_______

My Computer Model: Acer Aspire 5630
My SD Card : Duracell 2GB SD Card
Current OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Previous OS: Windows Vista (Home Edition I think, but I don't think it matters much)
_______

My Problem: I installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my computer a few days ago and I have encountered several problems; one being that my SD CardReader will not work. I believe it is because i don't have my CardReader driver installed, so I went out to get it.

Unfortunately, most of my drivers were built to be compatible with Vista and not 7. I was able to install my Audio driver, but my CardReader driver does something i did not expect. Instead of telling me that there is a compatibility issue, the InstallWizard finishes, and then prompts me to restart. After I restart, nothing has changed. My driver isn't listed in my Device Manager (not sure what it's SUPPOSED to look like to be honest), and the darn thing still won't read my SD card.
_______

The drivers I've tried installing so far are as follows:
-CardReader_ENE_3.00.00_Vistax86 (from the Acer Support site)

-CardReader_ENE_5.1.2600.2010_XPx86 (from the Acer Support site)

-Cardreader_Jmicro(JMB385)_1.00.12.07_Win7x86x64 (from http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/5338-sd-card-reader-laptop.html, post #20 from computersplus)

-CardReader_O2_v3.31.02_Win7x86x64 (don't remember where I got this, but I believe it was for a new model of Acer Aspire with Windows 7)

-O2Micro Flash Memory Card Driver 3.00 (from http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/5338-sd-card-reader-laptop.html, post #2 from Jimbo45)

-O2Micro Flash Memory Card Windows Driver V.1.9 (Stylebook H12Y CardReader) (from http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/5338-sd-card-reader-laptop.html, post #10 from Jimbo45)
_______

All of those act somewhat the same after an attempt at installing the driver. I run the setup, and it looks like it's installing normally. It would prompt me to restart in order to complete installation. After restarting, I pop my SD Card in and nothing is read. Device Manager doesn't show anything different either.

The results also vary a little bit but end up the same. Some of them don't prompt a restart, but still nothing can be read, and the Device Manager doesn't have anything new.
_______

I think this was all i had to write XD. Thanks in advance.

I'll provide screenshots and all that jazz upon request.

Just install using the working vista driver in compatibility mode

(right click installer>properties>compatibility>choose OS)

Right, this reminds of something i neglected to mention and also brings up another question about said method.

I have also, with each of the 6 drivers that I listed, troubleshooted compatibility and ran it to install onto Windows 7 accordingly.

So my steps for this would have been:
1. Right-click "setup.exe"
2. Choose "Troubleshoot compatibility"
3. Choose "Troubleshoot program: Select this option to choose compatibility settings based on problems you notice"
4. Check off "The program worked in earlier version of Windows but won't install or run now."
5. Check off "Windows Vista"
6. Start the Program.

This still did not work and yielded the same results.

When you tell me to run in compatibility mode and choose an OS, it lists everything from Vista and before. Since I'm on 7, which one would I choose?

Note: I did that exact thing, and ran it compatible with Vista and it did not work. Same thing happened.

hahamama, I think your bucking a head wind here. This Duracell reader should be replaced with a quality W7 approved card reader. This is what I use and it's flawless I will also add a less expensive option as well.
Lexar Professional UDMA Dual-Slot USB Reader Card reader ( external ) - Hi-Speed USB - SD Memory Card, CompactFlash Card, SDHC Memory Card - PC
Ultra U12-40497 LeatherX All-in-One Mini Card Reader - USB 2.0, 480Mbps at TigerDirect

What does bucking a head wind mean?

But anyway, I have considered getting an external to get it working, but I consider that to be a last resort kinda thing.

Everything was working perfectly fine before I reformatted. There seem to be a lot of people who have formatted from Vista to 7 and still get their drivers properly installed. Maybe Acer is just bad with software? I don't know...

But yeah, I'm going to leave the "getting new hardware" option as a final option.

My apologies as I Google'd a Duracell card reader and it was very low rated after re-reading your post I see it's a Duracell card only and integrated reader. I checked Acer's support and they don't offer any drivers for Vista 64 only 32 and zero drivers for W7. You may need to call Acer and see if you can download a different driver for the card reader. I found a Vista 32bit card reader driver but that won't serve your needs.

I might just try calling Acer for support.

A buddy of mine told me that I might be screwed for the reader. Apparently the CardReader is PCI-based and not USB-based, so it requires very specific software designed for very specific hardware... or something like that. And since 90% of the drivers for this model cannot run with Windows 7, my CardReader probably will not work.

Still taking suggestions though! =D

EDIT: Also, here is an image of what my Device Manager looks like

Take from it what you will. =]

If Acer says they have a Vista/W7 64bit driver then likely it could work but they don't show any 64bit drivers...that's not a good sign. I would go with one of my external recommendations the Lexar is especially great unit, fast, sleek and solid. No more bucking a head wind ! lol, sorry just had to....
