Older Acer monitor won't install properly

I have installed an older Acer model AL1916WA monitor on my Windows 7 Dell Optiplex 780 desktop but it has text over other text. I lowered the resolution to 800 x 600 which helped a lot, but now I can't get full screen videos. Is there a driver available to make this display to work properly?

According to the specifications, it is only Microsoft Certified for Vista. However, are you using a D-sub connection?

You're ok not your fault, the thing is you were asked a question I think it was not proper.
Both your computer and the monitor connect through a VGA connection (lets say a standard connection for simplifying) so forget about D-sub unless you "specifically" mentioned it.

The problem with these old monitors is that they memorise the resolution settings (in this case it was set to low resolution) then when you plug it to your newer PC, Windows is not able to drive the monitor or change the resolution.
As per advice, in the past I loaded an old monitor to Windows XP, I used it fairly for a few months then suddenly one evening smoke came out from the back of the monitor so you can guess the rest of the story.
Try restarting your computer in SAFE mode, that option will load low resolution VGA drivers so to see if the display is correct.

I didn't look again this morning but I believe when I looked previously, his monitor uses a d-sub connector.

Under the heading msinfo32 [MS System Information] - Problem Devices . . ., please run MS_Info32_Find_Problem_Devices.bat, Option [2] from here => BATCH PROGRAMS [Standalone] and then upload the results using the tutorial at the bottom of the above link [Upload to SevenForums . . .] and someone will look at it for you.
